On Thursday, North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory signed a new law banning the sale of body parts from aborted babies, and forbidding entities that perform abortions from receiving state family planning funds.
The bill, a reaction to The Center for Medical Progress undercover videos chronicling Planned Parenthood officials discussing the sale of organs from aborted babies for medical research, and appearing to break a number of federal laws in the process, passed the state House on Monday, and the state Senate the week prior.
Planned Parenthood claims its North Carolina locations do not participate in what they call tissue donation, leading GOP State Rep. Sarah Stevens to conclude that supporting the bill “shouldn’t be a problem.”
Democrats objected, and said denying Planned Parenthood funds would harm teen pregnancy, but GOP Rep. Larry Pittman replied: “The very idea that Planned Parenthood … would want to reduce the number of abortions is ludicrous.”
Planned Parenthood has denied the allegations that it profits from fetal parts that are used in biomedical research; it says the videos were edited to create a false narrative. The group says it follows all laws, regulations and ethical guidelines in handling donated fetal tissue.
“This whole national furor over this issue is linked to videos that have been widely acknowledged to be heavily edited,” said Rep. Paul Luebke, a Durham Democrat. “They really are fraudulent.”
But Republicans said the videos were clear. “What I saw with my eyes and what I heard with my ears was not altered,” McElraft said. “It was coming exactly from a member of Planned Parenthood and its staff. I’m sickened by it, and I can’t believe anyone would vote to allow this to happen in North Carolina.”
Planned Parenthood, Americans are sick of funding the sale of body parts and paying for ANY abortion by your organization. It is time for these repulsive actions stop. I say if you think the videos have been editing, such as for bathroom breaks or whatever, why don’t you just show the ENTIRE videos produced by the Center for Medical Progress. You probably won’t, because as Col. Nathan R. Jessep (Jack Nicholson) in a “A Few Good Men” would say….
