3 Lions Who Saved a Girl From Kidnapping and Being Raped

The UN estimates that 70% of marriages in Ethiopia are forced marriages where young girls are either kidnapped or are sold by their families into a life of child rape and humiliation. Ethiopia is about 25% Muslim, so it seems that in addition to the Islamists, tribal cultures also approve of pedophilia.

It also appears that there’s another culture in Ethiopia that does NOT approve of child rape. That culture? Lions.

A 12-year-old girl who was abducted and beaten by men trying to force her into a marriage was found being guarded by three lions who apparently had chased off her captors, a policeman said Tuesday.

The girl, missing for a week, had been taken by seven men who wanted to force her to marry one of them, said Sgt. Wondimu Wedajo, speaking by telephone from the provincial capital of Bita Genet, about 350 miles southwest of Addis Ababa.

She was beaten repeatedly before she was found June 9 by police and relatives on the outskirts of Bita Genet, Wondimu said. She had been guarded by the lions for about half a day, he said.

“They stood guard until we found her and then they just left her like a gift and went back into the forest,” Wondimu said.

It’s not known if the lions were distant relatives of Cecil, who was killed earlier this year in Zimbabwe by a Minnesota dentist.

Ethiopian police are doing their job and are looking for the kidnappers.

He said police had caught four of the abductors and three were still at large.

I wonder if they’ve put up wanted posters in the jungle? And, I can think of a great punishment for the four they’ve got so far. I think it would be great to give Lions a taste for kidnappers and child rapists.

So, for the Lions, we offer today’s Curmudgeon Award for Community Service. May you live long and eat well.

As a side note, isn’t it interesting that US feminists who will have a fit about almost anything don’t give a tinker’s dam about the “marriage” statistics in Ethiopia? Or, for that matter, anywhere in the Muslim world?
