Sunday on “Face the Nation,” Boehner offered a reminder of what we’ll be missing when host John Dickerson asked if the most conservative members of the Republican party make unrealistic promises about what they can accomplish, such as their crusade to defund Planned Parenthood. “Absolutely, they’re unrealistic!” he exclaimed. “But, you know, the Bible says beware of false prophets, and there are people out there spreading noise about how much can get done.”
Dickerson then asked if Senator Ted Cruz, who instigated the government shutdown in 2013 in an unsuccessful attempt to get rid of Obamacare, is one of those “false prophets.”
“Listen, you can pick a lot of names out; I’ll let you choose ’em,” Boehner said as he took a sip from his mug, eyes twinkling. “You don’t debate that assertion?” Dickerson asked.
“I refer you to my remark at a fundraiser I made in August in Steamboat Springs, Colorado,” Boehner replied.”
While it was never officially confirmed, several sources told The Daily Caller that Boehner called Cruz “that jackass” at the private event last month.
Attendee Ed MacArthur complained that the remark violated President Reagan’s “11th Commandment.” “I don’t think it’s terribly speaker-like, and I think it kind of goes against everything that Reagan ever said about disparaging Republicans,” he explained.
I agree with Ed MacArthur, what John Boehner said about Senator Cruz is NOT very speaker-like, and YES, it goes against EVERYTHING that Reagan ever said about disparaging Republicans.
Of course on Fox News, Ted Cruz responded with class. To paraphrase he said:
“the American people are very frustrated. We keep winning elections and the people who we elect don’t do what they said they would do! ….the promises we make on election day….we need to follow through …once we are in office.”
AMEN Senator Cruz! AMEN! Well, since it’s #ByeByeBoehner, are you listening Kevin McCarthy and others?
“….I don’t really KNOW John Boehner. He doesn’t speak to Conservatives in the Senate. ….IF either he or McConnell would stand up and lead….I would be the first to celebrate them…to praise them.”
“the most important characteristic of Speaker of the House”….. “a Faithfulness, a fidelity to the men and women we are working for.”
TOTALLY! Most Americans would agree with you, Senator Cruz. They said the problem was Congress, so we helped elect a majority of Republicans in Congress. Then, they said it was the Senate, so we worked hard and elected a majority of Republicans in the Senate. Guess What? Neither helped.
Again, I agree with Senator Ted Cruz, the America people are VERY FRUSTRATED with the Federal Government, and are looking for a leader we can trust. It certainly was NOT Speaker Boehner.
I guess that’s why Ted Cruz, candidate for the Republican nomination for President of the United States has a motto on his last campaign video ad stating all the characteristics we need:
Ted Cruz: Consistent. Conservative. Trusted. Maybe our next Speaker will share those same values. Afterall, this is coming from a guy who won the latest straw poll (three years in a row) at the Values Voters Summit for social conservatives, right?
