Actually, Brad Pitt may just qualify for plain old hero status forever.
Yes Mr. Pitt is a political Progressive and his political views are absolutely insufferable. But this isn’t about politics, it’s about people. And it’s about one liberal who’s putting his money, and his time and effort, into actually doing something to improve peoples’ lives.
Pitt and Angelina Jolie live in New Orleans, they just listed their home in the French Quarter for $6.5 million. But this post isn’t about their home, it’s about the homes they’ve built for the residents of the Lower Ninth Ward who still have not been able to rebuild after Katrina.
‘We went into it incredibly naïve,’ the megastar told the New Orleans Times-Picayune, ‘just thinking we can build homes – how hard is that?’
Pitt learned a valuable lesson.
A lot harder than he thought, it turns out. But that didn’t stop him, nor the area’s residents, from plugging along, and now Pitt is thrilled that 109 colorful, sturdy, ecofriendly homes dot the land that following Katrina was nothing but mud and debris and torn-apart lives.
What made the project harder than he thought was the government. Pitt says that he had no concept of the bureaucratic snags he would have to hurdle, including forgivable loan structures, family financial counseling, lot rights, and HUD grants.
But he was able to put the project together with lots of help and determination.
I’m going to encourage you to follow the link above and read the whole story, but in a nutshell, here’s what Brad Pitt has done.
He’s provided the motivation to take the Lower Ninth Ward from this …
To this …
To Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie we say, thank you for making a difference.
