Univision made the very poor choice – and headlines- last week when it chose to dump Donald Trump out on his tail – and contract due to the remarks made by Mr. Trump regarding illegal immigration. The fight is FAR from over, and watch out, Univision – you are about to lost the shirt off your back, and Donald Trump has the resources to do so. Looks like you’ve bitten off a bot more than you can chew, my liberal darlings…
Trump is suing Univision for $500 million dollars for backing out of the contract to broadcast the event in Spanish, saying that its dropping of the July 12 event was a breech of its obligations.
“Under the contract, Univision is required to broadcast the pageant live on television in Spanish,” Trump’s legal team said in a statement.
“While Univision claims its decision came solely in response to comments by Mr. Trump during a June 16, 2015, campaign speech announcing his candidacy for President of the United States, the decision was, in reality, a politically motivated attempt to suppress Mr. Trump’s freedom of speech under the First AmendmentTrump also let on for the first time that the only time Univision had talked to him about the contractual break was when one Univision official told Trump he was ashamed of what he called his company’s “poor decision.”
“Aside from this conversation, the only written notice received by Mr. Trump to date has been in the form of a press release Univision widely distributed to the media,” Trump’s statement read.
The statement also defended the remarks that Trump made.
“Nothing that I stated was different from what I have been saying for many years. I want strong borders, and I do not support or condone illegal immigration. There is a high level of crime occurring in this country due to unchecked illegal immigration. This is a major security issue for the United States,” the statement read.
“Additionally, the terrible trade deals our government is routinely entering into with Mexico are causing great financial harm to our country. We are losing a huge number of jobs, manufacturing opportunities and money due to poorly negotiated trade deals, a fact that undisputable (sic). That won’t happen if I become president — this disturbing trend will end and it will end quickly.” as he begins to campaign for the nation’s presidency.”
Enjoy your empty wallets, Univision. There is no protection from Donald Trump, and he will not quit until he is satisfied. Personally? I would go back, hat in hand, and apologize with a press release. Maybe then you could be able to stay in business,
