Speaking at the Family Leadership Summit while in Iowa, Donald Trump did not mince words regarding the statute of limitations on John McCain’s war record:
“He’s a war hero ’cause he was captured,” Trump said. “I like people that weren’t captured.”
Say what you want – but a whole lotta people have been thinking this for a whole lotta years… McCain has gotten a free ride on a bunch of craptastic things he’s said because of his war-hero status and folks, them’s just the facts.
But Trump wasn’t done:
“Perhaps he’s a war hero, but right now, he’s said bad things about a lot of people,” Trump continued and when asked to apologize, said “no.”
And why should he apologize? Trump said in a statement released after his talk:
“I have great respect for all those who serve in our military including those that weren’t captured and are also heroes. I want to strengthen our military and take care of our Veterans. I want to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN especially for those that serve to protect our freedom. I am fighting for our Veterans!”
Then Trump tweeted: “In addition to doing a lousy job in taking care of our Vets, John McCain let us down by losing to Barack Obama in his run for President!”
And although the usual gang of GOP are scrambling to call McCain a hero (yes, he is – but all our service people are – that’s Trump’s point!) it was McCain himself who started this fued by saying Trump “fired up the crazies” in Arizona.
McCain can take it, believe me – it’s the media and the pussified GOP who can’t.
