Al Sharpton wants your local police force run by the US Department of Justice. So does Barack Obama.
Remember his “Civilian National Security Force”?
If you like the National Security Agency, the Central Intelligence Agency, the Drug Enforcement Agency, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms…
If you like the fact that the US Department of Education, the IRS, the Food & Drug Administration and darn near every other federal agency have SWAT teams…
Hold onto your hat, because you’re really going to LOVE Barack Obama’s control of your local police force. Especially when you find out that the DoJ Civil Rights Division will be in charge.
You can forget “local law enforcement.” You can forget about your state legislature or your city being able to pass laws that make sense for your state. An army of “civil rights” lawyers will be in charge of their idea of law enforcement in the US. The groundwork has already been put in place.
All across the nation, preceding Barack Obama’s ascension to his throne, local police departments have been forced to accept “consent decrees” by the DoJ, typically the result of some amorphous “civil rights” violation. The feds show in a city with unlimited investigative power and an unlimited number of lawyers. They conduct an investigation and issue a report designed to create a media firestorm that is fanned by the likes of Al Sharpton. The city is then given a choice, voluntarily enter into a “consent decree” that allows the DoJ to set their policing rules or go to federal court.
No local jurisdiction in the US has the ability to fight the Department of Justice. Just ask Ferguson, MO.
[The] Justice Department report on Ferguson proposed a total overhaul of the town’s police force, a solution some see as the only answer to policing problems.
But the implications stretch far beyond Missouri: The standard that underlies Justice’s demands on Ferguson implies more federal demands on, and more legally mandated federal oversight of, police departments across the country.
Or, you could ask New York City.
We’ll soon learn more about this phenomenon here in New York, when our new federal monitor starts throwing his weight around.
In addition to “consent decrees” and federal monitoring, the DoJ already has a pilot program in place in six US cities to take over their policing. The program has an innocuous name: The National Initiative for Building Community Trust and Justice.
A new pilot program has been launched by the Holder DOJ that could help bring police departments under federal control. It will be based on the premise that there is rampant bias in all police departments in the country and it will be aimed at saving the poor victimized minorities who are unfairly arrested.
It’s important to note that it is a pilot program, which means an expansion of it is planned for much or all of the country. The six cities that have agreed to submit are taking money to subject themselves to federal research and to employ federal policing tactics.
The high crime rates in local locales are in minority neighborhoods.
George Orwell would be proud. Or shocked.
