The following four sentences, 51 words, are everything you need to know about the reason the inner cities – specifically the black part of the inner cities – are such a mess. And, the reason they aren’t likely to improve anytime soon.
Meanwhile, arrests have plunged: Police are booking fewer than half the number of people they pulled off the streets last year.
Veronica Edmonds, a 26-year-old mother of seven in the Gilmor Homes, said she wishes the police would return, and focus on violent crime rather than minor drug offenses.
“If they focused more on criminals and left the petty stuff alone, the community would have more respect for police officers,” she said.
That is the first two sentences and last two sentences of an article from CBS Baltimore on the current situation in the City. Let us deconstruct them and you’ll understand everything there is to know about the problems of black inner cities.
First, as we noted, the problem is culture not money. Let’s look at the failure of Baltimore’s schools.
…according to the U.S. Department of Education, $17,329 is the total expenditure that the Baltimore City Public Schools made per student in the 2010-2011 school year, the latest year for which the Department of Education has reported this data. ($17,329 in 2011 dollars, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics inflation calculator, equals about $18,083 in 2015 dollars.)
Baltimore is second in the nation, just behind New York City in school spending. They average 15 students per class. In 2013 just 16% of Baltimore’s 8th graders scored at or above grade level in reading and 13% in math.
38 homicide victims in less than a month in Baltimore. Part of the problem is that cops have slowed or stopped their response rates to crime and that emboldens criminals. The bad guys now totally own the streets. For that you can thank Baltimore’s mayor and their prosecutor, both black, progressive, women. The mayor told the police to stand down when thugs were queuing up to burn the city and the prosecutor has been openly hostile to the cops who’ve been indicted in Freddie Gray’s death. They know their chain of command doesn’t have their back so they’re not about to walk into a dangerous situation. Crime is about to get a whole lot worse in Baltimore and just wait for a long, hot, summer weekend.
And then there’s the real problem. “a 26-year-old mother of seven”
The article doesn’t say so, but we’d bet the farm that “mom” isn’t married and has never been married. We’d also bet that most of the kids have different “fathers” and none of them are contributing to their childhood. Although in that neighborhood, not being around may well be a big contribution.
THE problem in the “black community” is the destruction of the nuclear family by Democrats and their policies. A 26 year old single “mom” with seven kids is, unfortunately, not atypical. No one seems to be the least bit interested in addressing the “family” problem in the black community, they’d rather pat “single mom’s” on the back and keep them on the welfare plantation. Until somebody addresses this, 35 murders a month in Baltimore will continue to be no big deal because nobody in the black community, and certainly nobody in black leadership gives a damn about black lives. They just don’t matter.
