A Secret Service officer was arrested Friday for first-degree attempted burglary, a felony, and one misdemeanor count for destruction of property. Wasn’t it a burglary that took Nixon down?
Just when we thought we were running out of excitement at Joseph Clancy’s World, he has another headache pop up!! Seems that the officer involved, is having trouble letting go of an ex-girlfirend.
CNN reports that,
“A police officer went to a residence about 12:24 a.m. after receiving a call about a burglary in progress, police documents said.
The officer found the front door with broken hinges, boot prints and two broken windows, the documents say. The woman who lives there told the officer, “My ex-boyfriend won’t leave me alone.”
While the D.C. Metropolitan Police officer was at the scene, Baldwin drove up, said he was a police officer and asked to speak with the woman, the police document said.”
The front door was broken down and two windows were left broken.
It is horrifically dangerous to allow such an important agency fall so far into disarray. While this particular incident would have been very difficult to prepare for, the admitted attitude of acceptance by the agency of a “party atmosphere” definitely feeds the opportunity for such incidents.
Maybe if Joseph Clancy had been concentrating on getting some control over his troops, instead of concentrating on building an $8 Million replica of the White House, they might have seen this one coming.
He was hired for the purpose of fixing the agency, and it just keeps getting worse.
Of course the big scandal happened before his time, when a man with a knife was able to get into the White house after just jumping the fence.
That had been preceded by a series of partying incidents.
Three Secret Service agents who were assigned to Obama’s protective detail were sent home from Amsterdam in one instance. They had been partying Saturday night and one of them was found passed out drunk in a hotel hallway.
Joseph Clancy was chosen to right the ship, but it seems he is flailing.
Mr. Clancy was humiliated after he told a congressional committee meeting he was at , “it will ‘take time’ to change the culture and he, as director, needs to ‘build trust’ with the workforce.”
Rep. Chris Stewart from Utah scolded, “Dude, you don’t have to earn their trust. You’re their boss. They’re supposed to earn your trust!”
Things really started heating up when Mr. Clancy inherited his own scandal.
On March 4th, two senior Secret Service agents, including a top member of the president’s protective detail, ran an official car into White House security barrier~ The two had been drinking at a late-night party.
Then it became an attempted cover-up:
Officers on duty who witnessed the March 4 incident wanted to arrest the agents and conduct sobriety tests, according to a current and a former government official familiar with the incident. But the officers were ordered by a supervisor on duty that night to let the agents go home, said these people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the sensitive internal matter.
Then it just got worse as Joseph Clancy was grilled by Rep. Gowdy (SC) and Rep. Chaffetz (UT). when it was discovered that they were not providing Congress with full access to the drunk driving incident videos.
Rep. Gowdy: …so why would you not turn over all video footage to this committee?
Joseph Clancy: Congressman, we will show all video…uh at anytime…day or night…that this committee would like to review…We have done that…in fact the chairman (Rep. Chaffetz) was the first…I believe to see this…
Rep. Chaffetz: With all due respect, that is just not true!
Joseph Clancy: (More deer in the headlights) If I have to correct the record, I would like to correct it.
The Secret Service is trying to mend its reputation after these numerous issues involving the discipline and professionalism of its officers and agents.
Now this Secret Service Officer Turned Burglar incident. It will be very curious to see what happens next.
The Secret Service scandals have become never-ending fodder for comedians, including Michael Loftus and Rodney Conover on the new TV comedy, The Flipside with Michael Loftus:
