Will the insanity ever stop? A 4th grade student was suspended from Kermit Elementary School in Kermit Texas Friday for the unconscionable act of pretending!! He had just seen the movie “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies”, had brought his “magic ring” to school, and had “threatened” to make a classmate disappear! OH THE HORROR!
The Odessa American first broke the story saying that the Principal, Roxanne Greer, refused to speak on the matter because of privacy issues, but that the father, Jason Steward, said the principal had said “Threats to another child’s safety would not be tolerated – whether magical or not.”
According to the NYDailyNews, The child was suspended twice before. Once for referring to a classmate as black and another for bringing his favorite book to school: “The Big Book of Knowledge.” (The popular children’s encyclopedia had a section on pregnancy, depicting a pregnant woman in an illustration.) The family moved to Odessa in August 2014.
There is definitely something wrong with the leadership at this school. To suspend a child for using his imagination, something that the schools are supposed to be encouraging, is incomprehensible!
The story comes on the heels of another incident that put a Texas school in hot water when Principal Alan Luker and the Girls Basketball Coach were put on leave for pulling the pants of 24 elementary boys and girls to investigate their underwear to discover who had ‘pooped’ on the gym floor.
When will these schools learn? They will learn when we start showing up at school board meetings en masse demanding resignations. They will learn when thousands of Americans contact the schools and district offices demanding resignations.
Principal Roxanne Greer needs to be fired. As I have said before, NOT for this incident, but for the ineptness that allowed this as well as the other two insane suspensions to take place. She needs to find a non child related job because she is lacking that little “Common Sense” switch in her head that not only says, this is out of line, but that it will emotionally effect a student and adversely affect the school and the district. I publicly call for her resignation. I ask that you do as well!
