To say that I’m frustrated with the GOP today would be an understatement.
We were on the brink of being able to fire the current Speaker of the House, Rep. John Boehner (R-OH) but too many elected members in the House were “afraid” to vote against him. Why? Because Boehner is the CEO of the corporation!
Remember your first job? You were probably so excited to be accepted and given a position within an organization. An organization that could have selected any candidate that applied but they chose you.
You most likely felt excited that since you were “chosen” that you were in a position to be able to share your opinion and insights with your new boss. You now had a platform in which you could spread your wealth of knowledge.
You could even share your opinion with other employees even if your opinion was in opposition to that of your employer. You probably surmised that any boss that hired you would surely understand that you were an individual with your own opinions and that he or she would welcome the opportunity to listen to them.
But then you started noticing a shift occurring. You began to see those sharing their opinions being transferred to other departments. Your new best friend in the department who spoke out about his dislike of how some things were being handled within the company was suddenly fired.
Others with whom you had spoken and shared your complaints left the company for greener pastures and you noticed your annual bonuses beginning to shrink.
You started to realize that others who remained silent and “went along” with the bosses’ vision for the company fared much better than those who had tried to change the system.
Soon you plotted to become the favored son or daughter again just to survive. You put your head down, nose to the grindstone, minded your own business and remained silent.
Eventually, bonuses began to return and you received your first promotion. A sign that you had gotten with the program and finally understood that this was your bosses’ company and not yours. The boss had trumped your opinion.
Apparently, all new GOP representatives who were recently elected came to the same conclusion or at least their silence and vote for Boehner would lead me to believe that they know who is boss.
For you and perhaps for our representatives in Congress, it may have been a hard pill to swallow to have learned who is “boss. While not all bosses are the same, some even welcome an opinion and want their “employees to become vested in their company. However, the same is not true for our government.
The GOP, as a whole, has become that boss who doesn’t care about the American public’s opinion. They are the employer and we have become the employees.
But wait, you say we are not employees! We elect these people to represent us. If anything, we are the employers and they are the employees.
Sixty percent of the American public said that they wanted Boehner fired. The GOP did not listen. They ignored the will of the people like some closed-minded bosses who don’t welcome change or an opinion different than their own.
The GOP is running their own corporation and “business” the way they want to run it. They are making the decisions for us and our only alternative is to wait until we can vote them out, right?
Just as with any corporation that you are working for, if you are unhappy you are free to look for another job. You could leave the party.
In this case, you are also free to defund the GOP or choose another alternative.
I say, as with any bad company, the truth must be exposed and the company must be put out of business. To do this, the company has to feel it in their “pocketbooks.”
I’m not willing to wait until 2016 to put this company on notice. As Americans, we must quit doing the same things or we will continue getting the same results. Isn’t that what we are accusing the GOP of, as well?
Since the media won’t bring awareness, we must! Write about it, talk about it, use social media, but get the word out about how the GOP (and both parties, really) have continued to fail the American people.
Also, stop supporting the company, or in this case, the GOP by donating to them, canvassing for them, stumping for them, voting for them, or anything else that signals to them that you want to buy their “product.” Show them that is the last thing that you want to do.
We can also begin to show up more often at their offices, either locally or in Washington, D.C. to let them know that we are voicing our disapproval. Let them see our faces instead of enabling them to ignore us.
We must also begin continuous letter writing campaigns, placing phone calls, posting in social media, and standing with signs on street corners, if need be, to get our message across that WE are the people in charge and not the other way around. Signal to them that we are not going to allow them to conduct “business as usual.”
If we’re too busy to devote our time and talents to creating a better GOP for the future of this country rather than losing election after election and getting the same rhetoric from our Congress, then we can’t expect to see a “better run company” in the near future!
