A minimum wage affects us all..
At Wal-Mart it will be the higher-skilled employees who will be the first to feel the pinch. Since the new higher minimum wages increases the cost for Wal-Mart of doing business by 3.5% they must find a way to stay in business.
They could raise their prices for all of us.
They have decided instead to take the premiums now paid to their higher-skilled employees and give them instead to their lower-skilled workers who are required to make the new minimum wage.
This is how our President’s creed of equal misery and a higher minimum wage for all plays out. The higher skilled workers might look for employment elsewhere since they have received a pay cut in spite of being more qualified and/or more dedicated to their jobs. They could work for a company which still rewards an education and good work ethic with higher pay.
This will leave Wal-Mart with less capable workers, sometimes forcing them to hire more employees than the number who quit.
Will these higher minimum wages make their business quality decline, leading to customers going elsewhere?
Can you see where this might lead?
And if they just charge more for everything they sell, would the same consequences occur?
Michelle Obama said on the campaign trail: “The truth is, in order to get things like universal health care and a revamped education system (did we say we wanted that?), then someone is going to have to give up a piece of their pie so that someone else can have more.” Indeed: unequal effort now allows an equal outcome.
On the other hand, renowned economist Milton Friedman stated regarding Capitalism: “The great achievements of civilization have not come from government bureaus. The only cases in which the masses have escaped from grinding poverty are where they have capitalism and largely free trade.”
It is Obama’s vision to have all money “fairly” controlled by government and then doled out more equally to everyone – regardless of work ethic. This divisive “hate the rich” message is harming America and it promotes Socialism. It would be so much easier, don’t you know, to have the government take care of us from cradle to grave.
As Obama famously said of business owners, they didn’t build that without the help of others. He also stated that “there are a lot of wealthy, successful Americans who agree with him – because they want to give something back.” Exactly, Mr. President. They DO give something back when government gets out of their way.
It is you, Mr. President, who is taking from us everything you can possibly take during your term in office…
