Robin Williams is dead; Who Cares? Why?

081001-N-0696M-339I do, I guess… That’s the politically correct thing to say.

He made me laugh and I am going to miss that. On the upside, his work has been recorded so I will be able download it on iTunes or buy the DVD. The downside, there’s no new stuff to look forward to other than a couple movies that haven’t been released yet.

I am thankful that he shared his life and performances with us and wish that he would have made the choice to continue, but he didn’t. He didn’t care to continue living. We can speculate the why, but ultimately, Robin decided the he’d had enough of this glorious thing we call life.

There has been a lot of talk about depression, religion, drug abuse and blah blah blah…

The blogosphere has gone crazy. One of my favorite writers, Matt Walsh, wrote a piece saying that it was Robin’s choice to kill himself — people’s heads started exploding. We’ve got people at Redstate saying the death of Chris Kyle was his choice in an attempt to show how Matt’s article is not compassionate. So, the author uses the death of a hero like Chris Kyle to get people to read his article. But that’s ok because he feels what he has to say is so important he can do the same thing he criticizes Matt Walsh for?

Either way, it seems that everyone cares that Robin Williams is dead. I gave my reason why I care and when it comes down to it, it’s a completely selfish reason — no new laughs for Rottdawg. It really couldn’t be any other way since I am giving you “MY reason for caring,” it is obviously going to be selfish. It’s the same for everyone else too. It’s not meant to be cold hearted or cruel, but in every case, suicide effects only those that care.

“If you don’t care about yourself, don’t expect anybody else to care about you either!”  That was drilled into my head when I was younger. It’s good advice, but you also have to flip it around and ask, “Should you care about someone if they don’t care about themselves?” It’s up to you, but be prepared to grieve.

I have had friends and family take their own life. In all but one case was I saw it coming. You have to try to help, but there has to come a point that if they don’t care, neither should you. I can understand that for some people the big sleep might seem like the best option and who am I to stop them. I think they have that right and if they try, I hope they get it right the first time. If they don’t, I think they are just looking for attention in which case, they can suck it, they should have picked up the phone. It’s is one of the most selfish things someone can do, it’s the ultimate in quitting and for the most part, I don’t like quitters!

Instead of worrying about one that is already gone, let’s remember that everyday, 20 plus veterans commit suicide. Do you want to see something that will make you want to puke? This is the result of a couple recent google searches….
