Lois Lerner at IRS: Conservatives are “Crazies” and “A-Holes”

Just in case anyone anywhere is still clinging to the notion that the IRS targeting of conservative groups before the 2012 presidential election was just an accident or the maneuverings of some lower-level workers, the latest batch of recovered emails from Lois Lerner should prove otherwise.

House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp delivered a pile of evidence to the Department of Justice, including emails sent from Lerner’s account that reveal her deep contempt for conservatives before the election.

But a few of them were very revealing nonetheless and included one message in which she called conservative Republicans “crazies” and another in which she called them “assholes.”

Despite the serious investigation and evidence this committee has undertaken into the IRS’s targeting of individuals for their beliefs, there is no indication that DOJ is taking this matter seriously,” Camp complained in a letter sent to Justice. “In light of this new information, I hope DOJ will aggressively pursue this case and finally appoint a special counsel, so the full truth can be revealed and justice is served.”

Camp said the emails demonstrate Lerner’s “personal hostility toward conservatives” who were the targets of IRS harassment and prolonged delays while trying to obtain nonprofit status.

Tea Party and other conservative groups that were targeted complained of lengthy questionnaires that probed into the personal information of group members and speakers who addressed them, including not just financial information but about personal political and religious beliefs and activities. The IRS even demanded to know of a pro-life group the content of group members’ prayers.

The Department of Justice so far has declined to investigate the IRS and isn’t likely to ever do so as long as Eric Holder is in charge. President Obama is Holder’s close friend and pulled his fat out of the fire by blocking the Fast and Furious investigation.

Obama has said there is not a “smidgen” of evidence tying Lerner’s crusade against conservatives to the White House efforts to see Obama re-elected.

That, of course, is what all the stonewalling and crashed hard drives are about. One of the impeachment charges against President Nixon was that he used the IRS to target political enemies. The smart money says that’s exactly what Obama did, but any evidence of it has surely been scrubbed, and Lerner has been bought off or possibly threatened to keep her mouth shut.
