Ambam the Upright Gorilla Man Turns 24

planetofapes2So this gorilla named Ambam – who walks upright like a man – is 24 years old and is a YouTube star!  Is it newsworthy?

… You won’t be askin’ that when a bunch of them throw nets on you, toss you in a cage and start doing medical experiments on us all!!

“I’m walkin’ over here!”

Apparently, Ambam has perfect balance on two feet, unlike most gorillas and has been viewed over 6 million times online! In other words, people are bananas over this ape and who knows – maybe he’ll find an upright female one of these days that isn’t his sister, who also walks upright.

Perhaps they’re the missing links? Or the next evolution in Sapiens?

But what I really want to know is how long before they start talking and destroying the Statue of Liberty?

Normally gorillas get around on all fours, but Ambam has perfected balancing on his two hind legs at Port Lympne wild animal park near Hythe, Kent.

His habit of walking like a human is also exhibited by his sister Tamba and her two-year-old son Kabale, a park spokesman said.

Head of gorillas Phil Ridges said: ‘All gorillas have the ability to stand upright to some degree, although they often choose not to, but Ambam and his sister have a particular talent at standing and walking completely upright on two legs.’

Ambam shares his birthday with stars including actresses Julie Christie and Sarah Michelle Gellar, cellist Julian Lloyd Webber and actor Robert Carlyle.

How you doin’?

Weighing 220kg, Ambam is Port Lympne’s biggest gorilla, whose lifespan can stretch from 30 to 50 years. He was born at the park’s sister site, Howletts, in 1990.

He is so cute!

I’m sure I’ve seen him around last call!
