TACOMA, Wash. – A Tacoma teacher was arrested Thursday on allegations of child rape and communicating with a minor for immoral purposes.
Meredith Claire Powell, a 24-year-old math teacher at Lincoln High School, was booked into the Pierce County Jail Thursday afternoon, reports KIROTV.
The Tacoma Police Department arrested Powell after the school district received an anonymous tip regarding accusations of sexual activity with students at Lincoln High School.
The teacher is facing two counts of third degree child rape and one count of communicating with a minor for immoral purposes.
School Spokesman Dan Voelpel said the teacher was immediately placed on unpaid leave, according to the report.
