A 12-year-old boy who became trapped beneath snow for an hour after the tunnel he was building collapsed on top of him has miraculously survived.
Steven Morse was playing outside his home in Baldwin Township, Minnesota on Tuesday evening when he decided to make a tunnel in the heavy snow that had built up.
But temperatures have not been so low this week as in recent weeks, meaning the snow was softer – and as he dug his way through the snow, it suddenly collapsed on top of him.
‘I was thinking “Oh my gosh, I don’t know what’s going to happen”,’ Steven told CBS Minnesota as he choked back tears. ‘I was scared for my life.’
He said his body was entirely stuck beneath the snow – from his head to his legs.
‘I went on my back and I saw a slight dim light in which I had hope,’ said Steven. ‘I was forcing myself to move and making room that I could breathe.’
His father, Brad Morse, arrived home an hour later and was horrified when he saw his son stuck beneath the snow.
‘It’s the scariest thing I’ve ever seen,’ Mr Morse said.
