Rick Warren makes Piers Morgan Admit Defeat

(CNSNews.com) – Pastor Rick Warren, head of the popular evangelical Saddleback Church, repeated that the Bible says sex is reserved for a man and a woman within marriage and that when it comes to so-called gay marriage,  “I fear the disapproval of God” more than the disapproval of CNN’s Piers Morgan or the larger society.

In an interview on Piers Morgan Live broadcast on Dec. 6, the host Piers Morgan pressed the idea that some beliefs taken from the Bible have “evolved” over the centuries and asked, “Do you think you’ll change? … [C]an you see a time, when not just you but other Christian preachers and indeed the Catholic church and others say, ‘You know, what actually real equality means [is] everyone has the same right to get married, gay or straight?”

Rev. Warren, whose Southern Baptist church in Lake Forest, Calif.,  averages 20,000 parishioners each week, said, “I cannot see that happening in my life. I fear the disapproval of God more than I fear your disapproval or the disapproval of society. And so, I can’t change what I think God has said.”

“Now, I believe in the infallibility of Scripture,” said Warren.  “I do not believe in the infallibility of my interpretations. So, interpretations can be wrong — we know that that is true but I believe that what Scripture says is that sex is for a man and a woman in marriage.”

Earlier in the interview, CNN’s Morgan remarked that the movement for gay marriage in the United States is “seemingly unstoppable” and asked Pastor Warren if he recognized this movement.

Warren said, “Well, I don’t get to change what God says is right and what God says is wrong. And I think God is real clear that all sex outside of marriage is wrong. While I may disagree with you on your views on sexuality, it does not give me a right to demean you, to demoralize you, to defame you, to turn you into a demon.”
