So this what “more flexibility” after his re-election meant.
Soon after the newly inaugurated President Barack Obama removed his Commander-in-Chief-left-hand from Lincoln’s bible, he went on an Apology tour that culminated with his demand in Cairo that Egypt allow the Muslim Brotherhood full participation in future elections and that they be allowed to attend his speech. The first acts of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was to schmooze Iran’s wmd-terrorist-state-puppet in Syria and declare a “re-set” with Vladimir “KGB” Putin’s Russia. President Obama followed that up with an open-mike gotcha when he was heard telling Putin’s flunky Russian President Dmitry Medvedev essentially that he couldn’t surrender American leadership of the Free World, before he was re-elected.
Promises of missile defense installations in Ukraine, Poland and the Czech Republic were put on hold, the Republic of Georgia was declared on its own and then came the slaughter of Iranians demanding Liberty while President Obama begged their murdering mullahs to meet with no preconditions. When Syria was accused of using WMD, the Russian navy was parked off their coast.
So determined has been the liberal Democrats’ insistence that American exceptionalism be no more significant than Greece’s version, that we have doubled down on aiding abetting an Iranian nuclear state at Israel and Arab allies’ expense, turned Libya over to al Qaeda, make Red China our Pacific FAA-branch and Japan their vassals and now abandon Ukraine to a possible re-constitution of the Iron Curtain:
After years of negotiations for a major trading agreement with the European Union, Ukraine succumbed to characteristically blunt and brutal economic threats from Russia and abruptly walked away. Ukraine is instead considering joining the Moscow-centered Customs Union with Russia’s fellow dictatorships Belarus and Kazakhstan.
This is no trivial matter. Ukraine is not just the largest European country, it’s the linchpin for Vladimir Putin’s dream of arenewed imperial Russia, hegemonic in its neighborhood and rolling back the quarter-century advancement of the “Europe whole and free” bequeathed by America’s victory in the Cold War.
The U.S. response? Almost imperceptible. As with Iran’s ruthlessly crushed Green Revolution of 2009, the hundreds of thousands of protesters who’ve turned out to reverse this betrayal of Ukrainian independence have found no voice in Washington. Can’t this administration even rhetorically support those seeking a democratic future, as we did during Ukraine’s Orange Revolution of 2004?
The protests in Kiev:
Americans were understandably war-weary after the long hard slog in Iraq. As we were after the Dough Boys saved Europe from a German Kaiser after WWI. But our retreat after returning from Over There allowed Hitler’s Nazis to arise and cause the worst carnage the world had ever seen.
Obama and the Democrats have slashed the U.S. military, betrayed allies and appeased enemies. Prepare to reap the whirlwind of their aggression-inviting-weakness.
