CEDAR LAKE, Ind. – High school chemistry teacher Travis Lechien could spend a year in jail after he allegedly boozed up a group of students at his home last month, and topped the evening off with a field trip to a strip club.
The 31-year-old was terminated by the Hanover Community school district last week “for immorality,” reports NWTimes.com.
Lechien has been charged with three counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, “all Class A misdemeanors that carry a jail term of up to one year,” the Huffington Post reports.
NBCChicago.com reports “Lechien and the students were pulled over on their way home from the strip club” for speeding.
While the strip club trip appears to have been a one-time event, investigators say several students have admitted to hanging out at the teacher’s home on a regular basis, where Lechien occasionally served them alcoholic beverages, reports NBCChicago.com.
School officials were unaware of Lechien’s alleged pattern of illegal behavior until they received a tip from one of his fellow teachers, reports the Huffington Post.
Lechien’s initial hearing will take place on Nov. 19.
