Scott Rigell has disavowed an antitax pledge and opposed holding Attorney General Eric Holder in criminal contempt (one of only two Republicans to do so). He has also voted in 2011 to expand an Obamacare grant program by making veterinarians eligible for public health workforce grants and loan repayment. He voted for the omnibus and debt ceiling fiasco in 2011. He claims that balancing the budget is “indefensible mathematically” without raising taxes. He is the only Republican to vote NO on the CR to pay for every government program except Obamacare through December 15, 2013.
Here is a bio about Kevin Meynardie from his website.
Kevin Meynardie was born in Norfolk Virginia in 1978 and raised in Virginia Beach the majority of his life. After graduating from Tallwood High School in 1996, he went on to further his education at Radford University where he majored in Criminal Justice and minored in Psychology. After graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice in May of 2000, Kevin decided to pursue a career in the United States Army where he served at Fort Bragg, N.C. as a Military Police Officer. From Fort Bragg, he deployed to combat in Afghanistan in 2001 and again to Iraq in 2003. In 2005, Kevin ended his career in the Army where he served honorably.
Today he works as a DOD Police officer and currently lives in Virginia Beach with his wife Margaret and 4 kids; Matthew (14), Madison (9), Maggie (8), and new born baby Mariana Grace.
To understand where the country was going, Kevin was determined to understand where the country had been. He felt the need to reeducate himself on the Revolutionary War, the Founding Fathers, Constitution, Bill of Rights and why Patrick Henry was so adamant when he said, “Give me Liberty, or give me Death!” Reading and understanding the Constitution was paramount in order for him to support and defend the country against all enemies, foreign and domestic. After really grasping an understanding of the Constitution, he realized it was being violated on a consistent basis and Congress was doing little or nothing to stop it.
There’s a saying: If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself. Why should hardworking Americans sit back and rely on Politicians to fix the very same problems most of them are responsible for causing? This is why Kevin decided to make a run for Congress and represent the 2nd Congressional District of VA. Simply casting his vote at the ballot box has proven to not be enough when the individuals who are elected continuously prove they can not or will not get the job done. This leaves Kevin no choice but to do it himself.
Here are some of his posts from his facebook page.
I’m running as a Republican Candidate to represent the great Americans of the 2nd Congressional District of VA. Defending your liberties is my #1 priority!
Why are we still having the immigration debate? The solution is a no brainier! Step 1: Close our borders immediately! It’s been almost 12 years since the attack on the World Trade Center yet our borders are still open! Am I the only person who thought the borders would have been closed immediately after one of the most deadliest attacks on US soil? The attacks happened under a Republican President with a Republican controlled House and an evenly controlled Senate yet this solution was never applied. At the same time, we are spending millions to use our troops to secure the Afghanistan border! Step 2: End all welfare programs for illegals! How can a government justify spending millions on illegal’s medical and educational needs yet tell hard working American citizens they are going to have to take a pay-cut for 11 weeks because the government can’t afford to pay them!? Step 3: End birthright citizenship to babies born in the US by illegal Immigrants.
America is the land of opportunity and I undoubtedly support Legal Immigration! It’s one of the wonderful things which sets us apart from any other nation in history! Nonetheless, we have made it too easy and rewarding for immigrants to come here illegally. It hurts our economy and puts our national security at risk!
Say NO to Common Core Education! We need to get the federal governmnet out of our educational system. Return educational functions back to the states where it will empower parents and teachers to have a more direct involvment in a child’s education.
Scott Rigell defeated an incumbent Democrat, Glenn Nye in 2010. He won with the support of the NRCC, Eric Cantor, and Virginia Gov. McDonnell’s endorsement. In 2014 Kevin Meynardie will not have that kind of backing. It’s going to be up to the voters in the 2nd congressional district to send Scott Rigell on his last ride home from Washington.
