[Update: the casualty numbers are still bouncing around.Late Monday it was 51 dead, Tuesday morning it was 91, and later Tuesday they are saying 24 confirmed dead. None of which changes what Whitehouse said or how I feel about it.]
Yesterday, a huge tornado hit Moore, Oklahoma for the second time in less than 15 years. As of this writing, we know of 24 dead and over 230 hospitalized. Two elementary schools were directly in the path of the mile-wide tornado, and some of the dead were schoolchildren at those schools. The previous tornado in 1999 was a rare F5 that killed 36 people.
All good Americans mourn with Moore today, and true to the nature of Americans, I’m certain that volunteers of all sorts are already on the ground. Americans will gladly give of their time, money, and hearts to the people there. That’s who we are, that’s what we do.
But….at the the intersection of Monumental Jackass Avenue and Galactically Stupid Boulevarde you will find Democrat Senator Sheldon Whitehouse from deep-blue Rhode Island, driving the Short Bus 120 miles an hour with a vodka martini in one hand, the Communist Manifesto in the other, and no hands on the wheel.
No kidding, minutes after the tornado hit Moore, this guy made a 15-minute speech on the Senate Floor. His points were:
- the tornado was caused by global warming.
- Republicans, by protecting polluters and denying global warming, are responsible for the 51 deaths in Moore.
[mouth open, about to say something]
He said…what? He….actually…. said that? What is he, a moron?
Why, yes, yes he is. A portion of his speech:
So, you may have a question for me. Why do you care? Why do you, Sheldon Whitehouse, Democrat of Rhode Island, care if we Republicans run off the climate cliff like a bunch of proverbial lemmings and disgrace ourselves? I’ll tell you why. We’re stuck in this together. We are stuck in this together. When cyclones tear up Oklahoma and hurricanes swamp Alabama and wildfires scorch Texas, you come to us, the rest of the country, for billions of dollars to recover. And the damage that your polluters and deniers are doing doesn’t just hit Oklahoma and Alabama and Texas. It hits Rhode Island with floods and storms. It hits Oregon with acidified seas, it hits Montana with dying forests. So, like it or not, we’re in this together.
You drag America with you to your fate. So, I want this future: I want a Republican Party that has returned to its senses and is strong and a worthy adversary in a strong America that has done right by its people and the world. That’s what I want. I don’t want this future. I don’t want a Republican Party disgraced, that let its extremists run off the cliff, and an America suffering from grave economic and environmental and diplomatic damage because we failed, because we didn’t wake up and do our duty to our people, and because we didn’t lead the world. I do not want that future. But that’s where we’re headed. So I will keep reaching out and calling out, ever hopeful that you will wake up before it is too late. [h/t Daily Caller]
On a scale of 0-100 on the Stupid Gradient, that’s 100.
I’m going to tell you something you need to know: There is no global warming. It’s a hoax that has been exposed for some time now. If you believe in the global warming hoax, you are an idiot. This was a hoax from the beginning, and considering who was peddling it, you should have been skeptical from the beginning and demanded something like verifiable, repeatable numbers from disinterested second parties. The evidence they trotted out was fishy to start with. The famous “hockey-stick” prediction chart is what liars and salesmen use to say “well, we can’t see the evidence yet, BUT BOY WILL WE REALLY SOON!!!”
Now that it is common knowledge that the earth has not warmed one single bit in the last 15 years, if you didn’t bother to find that out and just believed what they told you, you are an idiot. By the way, if you’d like, perhaps we’ll take a scholarly look at the whole global warming hoax. I’m not going to get into it today. Besides, if you are dying to make a non-idiot out of yourself, the truth is all over the internet. Just don’t start with IPCC.
And if you are a United States Senator, I think you have an obligation to know some basic facts before you go accusing your opponents of being the dumb ones.
On a scale of 0-100 on the Colossal Jackass Gradient, that’s another 100.
But being arrogantly stupid is just the warm-up. The sun had not even set on Moore, Oklahoma on the day an F4 killed 24 people and flattened 30 square miles, this guy was on the Senate floor, blaming Republicans for their deaths due to their lack of support for the global warming hoax..
This sanctimonious fool belongs to the party that uses the IRS and the EPA to persecute political enemies, the party that has run up $6 trillion in debt in 4 years, that has declared war on whole industries (oil, coal) and states (TX, AZ), sanctioned electoral cheating and intimidation, and run guns to drug cartels. I’ll not be lectured on morality by the likes of him.
And I’m not entirely certain why one of the Senators from Texas or Oklahoma didn’t walk up to him and punch him in the face. That would have been the gentlemanly thing to do.
