There were some reports that Obama went to bed during the Benghazi attack, but this may have started with a Liz Cheney interview on Greta Van Susteren’s show on Fox News last year. I can’t find any evidence to support that the apologist-in-chief did in fact retire in the midst of the attack. There are, however, many other sources that claim to know what he did that evening.
We know that the Benghazi attacks began at 3:42 EST and lasted approximately 7 ½ hours. Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty died (at the CIA Annex) in the last 15 minutes of these attacks, which means they died about 11 p.m. EST on September 11. (See the timeline in the April 23, 2013 Interim Progress Report for the Members of the House Republican Conference on the Events Surrounding the September 11, 2012 Terrorist Attacks in Benghazi, Libya. Hereinafter – The Report.)
So back to the question: what was Obama doing? According to an October 28, 2012 article in examiner.com, retired Army Lt. Col. Tony Shaffer told Fox News that he had sources that told him Barry watched the assault on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi in real time from the White House.
We know from The Report that Barry met with Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Martin E. Dempsey at 5:00 p.m. EST. We also know from Senate testimony by these two men that this meeting lasted about 30 minutes and they never spoke to Barry again for the rest of the evening.
According to CNSNews.com, Jay Carney confirmed to its reporters that there was a 10 p.m. EST phone call on September 11 between Barry and Hillary (Barry called her). Assuming the 10 p.m. time is accurate (and who knows with these people), this was about one hour before the deaths of Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty. “Late Tuesday night”, Hillary released a statement according to cable.foreignpolicy.com. Per The Washington Post, this statement was released at 10:08 p.m. The Wall Street Journal says the release was ‘shortly after 10 p.m.’ The actual press release can be seen on the state.gov website, here, but it does not have a time on it, only the September 11 date. The press release includes this sentence: “Some have sought to justify this vicious behavior as a response to inflammatory material posted on the Internet.”
So, can anyone guess what Barry and Hillary were talking about at 10 p.m. EST? The only surprise is that it only took them eight minutes to get the ‘let’s blame it on the YouTube video’ story straight, if indeed the press release was at 10:08 p.m. More likely, they had been finessing the story for a while – a couple of hours, maybe? Again, this is BEFORE Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty were killed. Apparently it was more important to be concerned about their political careers than to attempt to save Americans who had been under assault for seven hours.
There’s one more phone call to add to this mix, although we don’t have a specific time for the call. According to Lynn Sweet, Chicago Sun-Times, Obama spent an hour on the phone with Benjamin Netanyahu on the evening of 9/11/12. She says this was according to a statement issued the evening of 9/11/12 by the White House. The story also mentions that the call was not scheduled and that Barry called Prime Minister Netanyahu. They discussed Iran’s nuclear program and other issues. This was right after the White House said that BHO could not meet with Netanyahu while they would both be at the U.N. in New York City because of ‘a scheduling conflict’ (Barry had arranged to go on David Letterman’s show). The article implies that the phone call was an attempt to smooth over BHO’s ‘snub’ of the Prime Minister.
Interesting. This phone call is supported by reviewing the transcripts of the Jay Carney Press Briefing on September 14, 2012. Carney (also known as “Smarmy Smurf” to listeners of the Buck Sexton Radio Show) was asked about this phone call, and he responded. He DID NOT say that the phone call never occurred. Remember that Barry met with Panetta and Dempsey from 5:00 to 5:30 p.m. Any phone call to Netanyahu would have to have been after 5:30 p.m. in order for it to be an evening phone call, right? At 5:30 p.m. EST it is 11:30 p.m. in Jerusalem.
Sorry, but I just don’t buy this. The Prime Minister would take an unscheduled call from this US president (again, no cap P for this guy) sometime after 11:30 p.m. and chat for an hour about things they could have discussed another time? All the while, there’s an ongoing attack on our facilities in Benghazi. Not a freaking chance. How stupid do they really think we all are anyway?
And then there’s this: In a February 14, 2013 Washington Times article, it was reported that “Obama made no phone calls on night of Benghazi attack, White House says”. I guess members of this administration think they can get away with multiple story lines due to the sycophantic media. Perhaps they’re right.
And finally, something from yesterday’s (May 19, 2013) Sunday talk shows, as reported on The Blaze. A White House Spokesman, Dan Pfeiffer, made the rounds, trying to perhaps deflect some of the recent criticism. On Fox News Sunday, Pfeiffer said it was “an irrelevant fact” where Barry was during the evening of September 11, 2012. What? Poor little tongue-tied Pfeiffer, it was pitiful to watch him. Are they running out of articulate spokespeople over there at the White House? Or maybe they’re running out of useful idiots to spew their lies.
