Rep. J. Luis Correa, a Democrat from California, has infuriated people in both parties for a painting hanging in his office that shows the Statue of Liberty wearing a Muslim hijab.
The Statue of Liberty painting was created by a high school student as part of the Congressional Art Competition. It was done as an unpatriotic violation of the separation of church and state.
If that painting had been portrayed as a Christian with a cross, in a conservatives office, the liberals would be yelling from the top of their lungs about separation of church and state! Such Hypocrisy!
Mike McGetrick, an activist with the group ‘We the People Rising’, called the painting “perplexing” and “disturbing” in a letter to Correa asking him to take it down.
“Ultimately, to attribute a specific religion to the Statue of Liberty is inaccurate, unprofessional and offensive,” McGetrick wrote. “In addition, the painting displays the torch of the Statue of Liberty, not as the heralded beacon of light, but rather held awkwardly to one side – in a perplexing, even disturbing, manner.”
During a July meeting between ‘We the People Rising’ members and a Correa staffer, McGetrick called the painting “filthy.”
Correa has declared that he won’t remove the painting, calling it “an individual artist’s expression.”

He warned that policing art like that could lead to a “very dangerous slippery slope.”
“My thoughts were, here’s probably a young Muslim lady who is trying very hard to be part of America, who is trying very hard to show people that she is an American, given the context that is going on around us in our country,” Correa said. “By me taking it down, I’m acknowledging that she did something wrong.”
‘We the People Rising’ said it will continue its campaign to have Correa take the painting down, even promising a September 11 protest at Correa’s office if the painting is not removed by then.
If she was wearing a cross, and he was a conservative, Y'all would be yelling separation of church and state. Hypocrisy at it's finest!

Now, I believe in the Constitution.
I believe that Rep. Correa hanging a religious painting in a government office is just fine. I believe in the freedom of expression. For no reason do I think any government official should walk in his office and take it down.
I do believe that Representative Correa did this to be offensive. He should have never put it up, and as it is very un-patriotic, he should take it down.
But the hypocrisy is insane because it is offensive and liberals cry over being offended about every sneeze. The Lady Liberty painting is religious and it defies their definition of separation of church and state. It represents oppression of women. It is anti-feminist!
Like I said, if that painting had been portrayed as a Christian woman with a cross, in a conservatives office, the liberals would be yelling from the top of their lungs about separation of church and state! Such Hypocrisy!
Liberal heads would explode and the MSM would harp on it day and night! There would be rocks thrown in the streets. They would be calling for resignation!
But Representative Correa purposely did this to be offensive. He knew exactly what he was doing. Unfortunately for him, many Democrats find this offensive as well. His days could well be numbered as a Congressman. Elections are coming!
