A Michigan man who called in to a radio show to talk trash to Steve Harvey over the Cleveland Cavaliers’ losing in the NBA finals…got butt hurt. He claimed the comedian went too far when he shot back at the caller with a knock on Flint’s lead-tainted drinking water. Now the Mayor of Flint want’s an apology.
Did someone tell these losers that an apology doesn’t get your water clean?
Dee Smith, 68, the old fart that couldn’t take the heat when he called to rag on Harvey’s team (Harvey is a Cleveland native and Cavaliers fan).
‘I said the Cleveland Cavaliers didn’t deserve to win and LeBron James was overrated. He started saying: “Where you from? Flint?” He said, “Enjoy your brown cup of water”, and then he cut me off. Everybody has issues with the water … relatives, family friends, people dear to me.’
Lead seeped into homes in 2014 after Flint began tapping the Flint River and somehow, was so feckless at their job that they didn’t treat the water to prevent corrosion of pipes. That resulted in elevated lead levels that were found in some children. Residents then had to use bottled or filtered water to drink and bathe with …Oh, the horror.
Michigan’s attorney general went on the warpath this week and charged 5 officials with involuntary manslaughter. These 5 included the state health director, who the AG claimed had failed to give notice to the public about a Legionnaires’ disease outbreak that killed 12 people and was linked to the tainted water that had been flowing in homes.
The head of the Michigan health department, Nick Lyon, was charged with involuntary manslaughter Wednesday when it was found out that he did not give proper notice to residents about Flint’s lead-contaminated water.
‘The Flint water is hardly a joke target for Harvey’s macabre humor,’ said Sam Riddle, political director of the National Action Network’s Michigan chapter, which is threatening a sponsor boycott unless there is an apology.
Harvey told a Flint-area television station in a statement that he and the caller were ‘talking trash about our teams and cities.’
‘I made a joke directed at him, as he is from Flint, a city for which I have great affection and respect,’ Harvey told WSMH-TV.
‘So much so that I devoted a full hour on my daytime talk show to raising awareness for the Flint water crisis.’
Flint Mayor Karen Weaver appeared on that show, but said she is saddened by Harvey’s comments.
‘While I feel it was not meant to be an intentional hurt or insult against the citizens of this community, it was. We are still going through many hardships and challenges caused by the poisoning of our city. To make a joke out of a tragedy such as this was in very poor taste, especially coming from someone of your stature.’
Really? Maybe this process Mayor needs to grow a pair and realize that water issues in her city are not a protected class, or an endangered species. Harvey was in an argument with another guy about a sports team…Just leave it at that, and stop with publicized fake outrage, it’s tiresome.
Like I said, an apology ain’t going to clean your brown water…
