Just when you did not think the airlines could get any worse, a Delta employee threatens these parents with jail and the loss of their child to FOSTER CARE because they would not give up a seat that they paid for!
Well, Delta is off the list now! I am aghast at the actions of our airlines recently. Is Southwest Airlines the only option we have left on which to safely travel?
A Southern California family were kicked off an overbooked Delta airplane because they refused to yield a seat held by their 2-year-old son. But in the process, the Delta employee made some incredibly moronic threats!
At one point, a member of Delta staff can be heard telling the family: “This is a federal offense and then you and your wife will be in jail and your kids will be in foster care.”
Are you serious? WHO THE HELL DOES THAT EMPLOYEE THINK THEY ARE? That should be immediate grounds for termination. That and that alone.
The Schear family of Huntington Beach were flying from Hawaii to Los Angeles. Delta airline staff asked them to give up a seat occupied by their 2-year-old son and carry him on their laps for the duration of the flight.
They tried to refuse and argued with airline staff, but say they were threatened with being sent to jail.
“You have to give up the seat or you’re going to jail, your wife is going to jail and they’ll take your kids from you,” Brian Schear recalled the airline staff telling him.
Despite feeling they were in the right, that threat was terrifying, said Brian’s wife, Brittany Schear.
“As a mother, you have a 1-year-old and a 2-year-old – it doesn’t matter whether that’s true or false. It put fear in me,” she said.
They filmed the encounter with airport staff and posted it on YouTube.
“You’re saying you’re gonna give that away to someone else when I paid for that seat?” Brian Schear tells the Delta employee. “That’s not right.”
Then the Delta MORON began the blatant lying:
The employee told Brian that under FAA regulations, 2-year-old children are not supposed to have their own seats at all and are supposed to sit in parents’ laps for the duration of the flight.
“With him being two, he cannot sit in the car seat,” the employee tells him. “He has to sit in your arms the whole time.”
The websites for both the FAA and Delta appear to encourage parents to buy separate seats for young children and use a child safety restraint system. So in the words of Maury Povich: That was a lie!
“We want you and your children to have the safest, most comfortable flight possible,” Delta’s website advises parents. “For kids under the age of two, we recommend you purchase a seat on the aircraft and use an approved child safety seat.”
That is number TWO reason the employee needs to be fired and never board a flight again.
Number THREE reason is that she does not have that little switch in her head that says, “Stop, you are about to become a moron!”
Eventually he agreed to hold his son on his lap for the flight. It was too late. The airline said the whole family had to leave.
The couple were left having to pay for a hotel room and $2,000 for another flight the next day.
Delta released the following statement to Eyewitness News:
“We’re sorry for what this family experienced. Our team has reached out and will be talking with them to better understand what happened and come to a resolution.”
