After the Syrian chemical weapons attack that resulted in hordes of deaths, the United States took a strong and harsh stance by launching fifty-nine Tomahawk missiles. After some preliminary research Associated Press officials indicated on Monday that Russia knew the attack would take place prior to it happening, and in order to cover up the attack, they bombed the hospital treating some of the victims. These allegations are not at all surprising considering the close alliance between Russia and Syria.
The person who released this information was an “anonymous” source who was not allowed to speak publicly on intelligence matters. The anonymous source would only provide the information on the promise of anonymity. They stated that a Russian drone was seen flying over a Syrian hospital. This was the same hospital where victims were taken to be cared for after the attack. Just a few hours later a Russian-made jet bombed the hospital.
The Associated Press reported the following,
“The official said the presence of the drone couldn’t have been a coincidence, and that Russia must have known the chemical weapons attack was coming and that victims were seeking treatment.”
Initially officials noted they were unable to determine if it was Syria or Russia operating the drone, but after some research were able to figure out, it was Russian. Iran and Russia denounced the United States Tomahawk missile attack on the Assad run Syrian airbase and called the action a ‘red line’. They further noted their support for the Assad regime.
In a joint statement they released they said the following about the situation,
“The United States crossed red lines by attacking Syria, from now on we will respond to anyone, including America if it attacks Syria and crosses the red lines. America knows very well our ability and capabilities to respond well to them, we will respond without taking into consideration any reaction and consequences.”
Russia has made it abundantly clear they are no friend to the United States or to the Syrian people. They are defending and taking up for a despotic megalomaniac who murdered his own people. There is no excuse for that. Russian drones flying over the Syrian hospital holding and caring for the sarin gas attack victims is not coincidental. Russian officials murdered them to cover up their complicity in the attack. But the Russian and Syrian government will continue to lie about their part in this travesty. Which is a travesty in itself.
Any such bombings are in direct violation of international human rights laws, as well as, United Nations provision on the rules of war. Especially considering the global monopoly on the bully pulpit as a veto power country in the Security Council and United Nations.
Now is the time for President Trump, Secretary of State Tillerson, and United States Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley to hold Assad and Russia responsible. They have already done so with the missile attack and in the chambers of the Security Council, and they will continue to do so until justice is served for these young children that were barbarically murdered.
