The moment the US dropped the MOAB on ISIS, the MSM and liberals have been screaming about how it was a waste of 10s to 100s of millions of dollars.
Some news media outlets claimed the bomb cost between $20 and $50 million per unit!
Even Edward Snowden got into the act with a silly figure of $314 million per unit!
“The bomb dropped today in the middle of nowhere, Afghanistan, cost $314,000,000,” tweeted the classified information-leaker. (Note below that Snowden’s figures were for the more expensive MOP, not MOAB in the first place!)
The price is actually very much lower, Business Insider reported.
In fact, the bomb reportedly only cost $170,000 per unit. An Air Force official explained that unlike most ordnance for the military, this bomb was built “in house,” which would significantly reduce the cost.
Some of President Donald Trump’s critics were quick to decry the cost of dropping the “mother of all bombs” on an ISIS target in Afghanistan on Thursday.
But the number heavily cited across social media, $314 million, was never confirmed by the US military, which has developed 20 such bombs, officially called the Massive Ordnance Air Blast.
The US Air Force dropped one MOAB — the largest nonnuclear bomb in the US’s arsenal — on an ISIS target in a remote part of far northeast Afghanistan, according to the Pentagon. The White House press secretary, Sean Spicer, said the goal was to destroy “a system of tunnels and caves that ISIS fighters used to move around freely, making it easier for them to target US military advisers and Afghan forces in the area.”
One MOAB costs about $170,000, an Air Force representative said Friday. The Air Force has not confirmed the development costs associated with the larger weapons system.
Twitter users, of course, ran with the highest number found.
The "mother of all bombs" dropped today in Afghanistan cost the US taxpayer $314 million. And yet America can't afford meals on wheels.

They obviously followed Snowden’s lead. The problem is that he took an LA Times article TOTALLY out of context. The article was not about MOAB, it was about the more expensive MOP (Massive Ordnance Penetrators.). The article named a cost of 20 units for a total of $314 million.
— Edward Snowden (@Snowden) April 13, 2017
Here is what the article said:
At a TOTAL cost of about $314 million, the military has developed and ordered 20 of the GPS-guided bombs
Unless you are using Common Core math, THAT only comes to $15.7 million, which is still over 90 times the real cost of $170,000!
For the math impaired liberals that would be: 314/20=15.7 or to do it in your little heads, 314/2=157 then 157/10=15.7. Never mind, Y’all still don’t get it!
The ignorance went on and on. Just search $314 million on Twitter:
One bomb. $314 MILLION. But let’s cut meals on wheels for Americans. https://t.co/tt0TB5QMH6

The bomb Trump just dropped on Afghanistan cost $314 million.
Enough money to fix the water crisis in Flint almost three times over. #MOAB

So in other words, to liberals, facts do not matter!
So how much will it cost for any MOAB that needs to be built future? It might cost more than $227,000, but that wasn’t immediately clear.
“We don’t have a replacement cost (for the MOAB) or estimated procurement cost because we haven’t put together a contractor requirement,” Air Force spokeswoman Ann Stefanek explained.
