President H.W. Bush received not so good news. President George H.W. Bush remains hospitalized for treatment as he deals with the effects of chronic bronchitis, according to a family spokesperson.

The 41st president has been receiving treatment at Houston’s Methodist Hospital for more than a week now. President Bush, 92, was admitted to Houston Methodist Hospital Friday, April 14th for observation due to a persistent cough. It was determined he had a mild case of pneumonia.

While former President George H.W. Bush has recovered from pneumonia, it seems he continues to deal with the effects of chronic bronchitis. Chronic bronchitis is a common condition with people of his age. The hospital’s staff is going to continue to monitor G.W.H.’s condition with their hope is for his condition to improve by the weekend so that they can discharge him then.

At 92-years-old, Bush Sr. is the oldest surviving U.S. President.

“While President Bush has recovered from pneumonia, he continues to deal with the effects of chronic bronchitis, which is a condition more prevalent with age,” read a statement released Tuesday from Bush’s pulmonologist, Dr. Clint Doerr.

“This means his airway has a constant, low-level inflammation that can aggravate the symptoms of pneumonia,” the statement read.

Doerr indicated he hopes the president will be strong enough to be released by the end of the week, adding that Bush’s breathing will continue to be monitored.

“Once President Bush is home, we will continue aggressive respiratory treatments to help minimize the effects of the chronic bronchitis,” Doerr said.

Jim McGrath, the former president and first lady’s spokesperson, posted the doctor’s statement on Twitter.
