Since President Trump has taken office people have hoped that relations between Israel and the United States have warmed up. President Obama did arguably irreparable damage before he left office when he endorsed a vote that took sovereign land away from our friend Israel. But now even under the Trump administration the United Nations is unfairly treating Israel yet again.
An agency of the United Nations published a report that accused the country of Israel of having an apartheid regime perpetrated upon Palestine,
“in order to maintain the domination of one racial group over others.”
The preliminary report was published by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia. It said,
“Israel has established an apartheid regime that dominates the Palestinian people as a whole.”
Scholars have explained that the document was prepared on the,
“basis of scholarly inquiry and overwhelming evidence, that Israel is guilty of the crime of apartheid. Strategic fragmentation of the Palestinian people” into four groups is the main way in which Israel imposes apartheid against Palestinians by oppressing them through “distinct laws, policies and practices.”
The report identifies four different sects of Palestinian citizens. Those include Palestinians in Israel, Palestinians in East Jerusalem, Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, as well as exiled Palestinian refugees.
However, Israeli United Nations Ambassador Danny Dannon castigated the report and denounced it saying,
“The attempt to smear and falsely label the only true democracy in the Middle East by creating a false analogy is despicable and constitutes a blatant lie.”
Israel spokesman Emmanuel Nahshon rejected the ultimate analysis as nothing more than a Nazi propaganda publication that was based in anti-Semitism. But United Nations Under-Secretary General and ESCWA Executive Secretary Rima Khalaf agreed with the findings of the report.
Even America’s United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley refused to promote the report. When asked about the findings she said,
“The United Nations secretariat was right to distance itself from this report, but it must go further and withdraw the report altogether.”
Oddly enough the woman who wrote the report was Virginia Tilley, a Southern Illinois University political science professor. Fortunately, the report has to be ruled on by an international tribunal to have an authoritative value. Democrats have long taken the opportunity to bash our loyal friend. However, under this new administration those days are long gone.
