Just when you think Democrats cannot stoop any lower they impress you with their lack of grace and dignity. Yesterday’s joint session of Congress is no exception. The only difference is that Democrats chose to show their embarrassing behavior on national television. This time they completely disrespected the wife of a slain marine.
During the President’s speech before a joint session of Congress last night he laid out the policies his administration will fight for. Among other issues, he discussed defense spending, the Mexican-American border wall, as well as repealing and replacing the Affordable Care Act.
However, nobody can stop talking about his tribute to one of the guests in attendance. She was the widow of U.S. Navy SEAL, Senior Chief William Ryan Owens who died in January during a raid in Yemen that ended tragically. The President and his daughter attended the services.
The President said the following during his speech,
“We are blessed to be joined tonight by Carryn Owens, the widow of a U.S. Navy special operator, Senior Chief William Ryan Owens. Ryan died as he lived: a warrior, and a hero — battling against terrorism and securing our nation. Ryan’s legacy is etched into eternity.”
Both Democrats and Republicans gave her a standing ovation that lasted several minutes. However, not all Democrats showed the same respect. Rep. Keith Ellison of Minnesota, Rep. Nancy Pelosi of California, and Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida stayed seated! They refused to clap for her.
The Chief Content Officer of the Independent Journal Review confirmed that while they clapped during Owens’ intro they did not during the standing ovation. When their offices were called and asked for a response they did not respond to the request for a comment.
In the words of so many Democrats, some issues are bipartisan. There are always issues that transcend party lines that everyone can agree on. This is and should be one of them. There is no excuse. Even if they despise the President and everything he stands for, his honoring her has nothing to do with him and everything to do with this military family who sacrificed it all. It is about honoring the sacrifice and the loss of this military family and so many others who go unrecognized.
These few Democratic lawmakers should be utterly ashamed of themselves.
