ObamaCare is effectively dead. While the repeal hasn’t yet been introduced into the Congress thanks to the spineless Congressional Republican leadership, President Donald Trump has taken action to make sure that Americans are no longer burdened by the Obama stupidity.
One of the things that made ObamaCare so onerous was the “individual mandate” forcing every American to buy Barack Obama’s definition of health coverage. The mandate was always viewed as “government on steroids” and the first step to the far left imposing their idea of national healthcare on the American people. The mandate is officially dead.
President Trump issued orders to the IRS to stop enforcing the filing requirement for your 1040 that mandated compliance with ObamaCare. No mandatory compliance, no ObamaCare. Here’s Judge Napolitano talking about it.
If you don’t have insurance, you’re still legally responsible for paying the ObamaCare penalty, but if you don’t tell them you’re not insured, they have no way to come after you.
Needless to say, the #NeverTrump fools are screaming bloody murder. After all, the President is telling the IRS to break the law.
The move has already raised questions about its legality. Federal law gives the administration broad authority to provide exemptions from the mandate. But “it does not allow the administration not to enforce the mandate, which it appears they may be doing here,” says Michael Cannon, health policy director at the libertarian Cato Institute. “Unless the Trump administration maintains the mandate is unconstitutional, the Constitution requires them to enforce it.”
When all is said and done the Republican Congress needs to pass legislation that eliminates ObamaCare, drives a stake through it’s smarmy heart. The Republican leadership is acting like the cowards they’ve been for the last eight years. They passed a repeal of ObamaCare last year, and former President Obama vetoed it. Why not simply pass the same legislation now? After all, if it was a fantastic idea then why isn’t it now?
The answer to that question is simple. While it was a great idea last year, the leadership passed the legislation ONLY as a sop to the Republican base. The leadership knew Obama would veto the bill and they could give the impression they were doing something. Which, of course, they weren’t.
It’s time to perform or get off the pot. Fortunately, 2018 is just around the corner, and there’s the possibility that we can knock off a few Establishment toads along with picking up some seats in the House and the Senate.
