CNN is one of the most biased mainstream liberal media outlets there is. The President and his administration never have any qualms about calling them out for the fake news they put out there. It seems someone else is willing to come to the defense of the President and stand up to CNN. This time it was Ben Stein.
Economist Ben Stein appeared on a late night segment of CNN yesterday. In his past, Stein was a lawyer and even a speechwriter for President Richard Nixon. He went toe to toe with the anchor and called them out for their unfair treatment of the White House. Stein said that they along with other outlets treated the President like a punching bag.
Stein said the following when host Brianna Keilar asked for his opinion on the President skipping the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner,
“I don’t blame Mr. Trump one bit for [making the decision]. He’s a punching bag, day after day after day in the media and I don’t blame him for not wanting to go and be a punching bag in person.”
When the host seemed perplexed by his response she pushed him by bringing up Trump’s comments referring to the media as the enemy of the people and as fake news. But even then she got a response she could not have planned for and you could read it all over her face. Stein said,
“I wouldn’t say all the media is the enemy of the American people. But look, every day you pick up The New York Times they’re slamming, slamming, slamming him. I’m a great fan of CNN. I watch it quite faithfully every day. CNN is slamming him, slamming him, slamming him. Every day they are looking for a scandal.
They are just turning the woods upside down looking for a scandal. They are hoping, I think, to do what they did to Nixon a long time ago and still haven’t found any scandals. And with all due respect, I don’t blame him for being furious at them. And I think he’s got a lot of company. An awful lot of people are not great fans of the media and they see the media as an unelected aristocracy … who are dumping all over the mainstream of America, and I think Mr. Trump has a lot of company.”
Keilar tried painting it like Trump simply brought it on himself so he does not have anyone else to blame. But Stein would not let her get away with such blatant ridiculousness. He pressed her back and offered up a very good counter argument,
“There’s no doubt some of this is self-inflicted. But I think this general idea that the press can just hack and hack and hack away at the president that he is expected to sit there and take it is not a sound idea. I’ve noticed, day after day, week after week, everything is negative — not one positive response. This is a guy they are smearing, smearing, smearing all the time. I don’t blame him for wanting to fire back at them.”
Throughout the interview Stein compared the way the media was treating President Trump to how they treated President Nixon. Specifically, he noted that the media is making microscopic issues problems by blowing them wildly out of proportion.
“They’re trying to undo [Trump] basically before he even gets started. I think it’s extremely unfortunate. The country has real problems and for them to be focusing on trying to bring down this guy before he even gets started is a serious mistake.”
We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.
