Former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has been feuding with President Trump. It is one in a long line of celebrity feuds with the President. Amongst the former actor is Megyn Kelly, Rosie O’Donnell, Marco Rubio, and Ted Cruz. But now the feud between the two politicians has reached a new head.
They initially began going at it when the President made a comment at the National Prayer breakfast where he alleged that ratings for the Celebrity Apprentice show were lower now than when he had left. Trump had joked that everyone should pray for Arnold because of the ratings that had gone “right down the tubes.” The former Terminator responded by creating a Facebook live video basically telling the President to get back to work.
In the video Schwarzengger urged the President to “switch jobs.” He went after him in retaliation and said the following,
“You take over TV because you’re such an expert in ratings, and I take over your job and then people can finally sleep comfortably again.”
Schwarzenegger spoke with Men’s Journal and commented that he wanted to “smash” the president’s face after he saw the comments he had made about the NBC show ratings.
“I called my assistant and said, ‘I think what we really should do is request a meeting and go back to New York. And then we just smash his face into the table. And then I think, ‘We can’t do that, either.’ I think I have to be above all of that and put him on the spot.”
Schwarzenegger had endorsed Ohio Governor John Kasich during the Republican primary prior to Trump’s win. Perhaps what their feud really boils down to is misplaced anger over an endorsement that never was.
But the feud did not end there. President Trump went to Twitter, as he usually does, and claimed that Schwarzenegger did a really bad job as Governor of California and and an even worse job as the Celebrity Apprentice. Schwarzenegger threw a zinger back,
“I sound more presidential and more diplomatic and more elder-statesman — that’s exactly the way Donald should be.”
He even went off on some of the President’s recent actions that have been stirring up controversy all over. He attacked the one hundred and twenty day freeze on refugee resettlement and the ninety day ban on entry from seven countries in the Middle East by labeling them crazy and arguing it makes the United States look stupid.
It is certainly a fascinating situation considering Schwarzenegger is a former Republican Governor of California which is an anomaly in itself. But he is also a well-respected Governor and an immigrant from Austria. All factors which are indicative of the current political dialogue right now.
