Donald Trump won’t have problems with Democrats, November 8 rendered them irrelevant. Trump’s problems, and America’s, will come from the establishment Republicans like Paul Ryan, Mitch McConnell, John McCain, Lindsey Graham, et al.
Ryan McConnell took the first step last week to show that they are on board to Make America Great Again when they committed to a 200-day program to implement the agenda of President Donald Trump and American voters.
It will be very interesting to see what happens, Ryan and McConnell have a six-year history of ignoring the Republican base. Voters rose up in 2010 and again in 2014 to give Republicans solid majorities in both houses of Congress. The establishment Republican leadership simply went about their business cooperating with Barack Obama and the Democrats. We’re about to see if anything has changed.
Here’s Mitch McConnell’s introduction of Donald Trump to the Republican Congress in Philadelphia.
“The next president who’s going to make history and turn America around, Donald Trump.”
There is no question about that Mitch; the only question is whether you and Paul are going to be on the train or in front of the train, and I can tell you that Americans can live with either choice. Those of us who’ve watched you and Speaker Ryan over the last six years might even prefer you in front of the train.
Paul Ryan was his disingenuous self when he said that no one should be shocked by an ambitious agenda that includes repealing and replacing ObamaCare, filling a vacancy on the Supreme Court, and executing a dramatic reform of the tax code. Ryan didn’t mention it but bringing federal regulations and regulatory agencies under control and building a wall on the southern border to protect America also happened to be very high priorities.
When it comes to the wall, it was authorized by the Secure Fence Act of 2006, and on immigration and especially deportation all President Trump has to do is tell the Department of Homeland Security to enforce existing law. That’s something that hasn’t been done in eight years. It hasn’t been done in 32 years.
With a 52-48 majority in the Senate, it’s imperative that Mitch McConnell stands up and does his job as Senate Majority Leader and makes sure that idiots like the senile Sen. John McCain and the stupid Sen. Lindsey Graham toe the line. It appears that’s going to happen on President Trump’s cabinet appointments, but we’ll see what happens on his nomination to replace Antonin Scalia on the Supreme Court. It’s likely Democrats will filibuster any nominee, so it’s important that McConnell stiffens his spine and does away with the filibuster for Supreme Court justices.
It’s going to be a really interesting 200 days. We know that President Trump will be focused on Making America Great Again on each one of those 200 days we certainly hope that the Republican leadership is as well.
