California Refuses To Serve Meat And Cheese In School Lunches Because…Global Warming?

Is global warming a thing? One that suggests we should take meat and cheese out of our kid’s school lunches because of the effects they have on climate change?

I have to tell you…the dots just do not connect on that for me. Not even a little bit. It wasn’t too long ago that California stopped with their outcry against the serious issue of cow farts. Sorry for the sarcasm…

Now, it seems they have focused their unwanted attention on school lunches, and really it boils down to just how much worse can they make school lunch a horrible experience for the kids. At least it seems that way.

In Oakland, California, a school lunch option that is meant to be much more “climate-friendly” is on the lunch menu…and actually, just kidding it’s not an option, there is no other choice.

They have partnered with the environmental group Friends of the Earth (FOE) to take on the fight of global warming and they plan to do this by making student lunches… climate friendly.

FOE gave kids a lunch menu that was designed to take away foods that they deem themselves as “unstainable for our planet.” The new menu features a lot less meat and more plant-based food.

Any meat or cheese that the school did use came from “pastured, organic dairy cows” and has been deemed unfit. Now the student’s lunch menu has gone from beef hot dogs and pepperoni pizza to vegan stir fry tofu and vegan tostadas, and any real protein used in the menu has had the portion size reduced significantly.

“This is a landmark moment for school food,” Jennifer LeBarre, head of nutrition services for Oakland Unified School District, said in a FOE press statement. “We were so excited to see how the data showed that we could reduce our carbon and water footprint by serving healthy, delicious food –– like the vegetarian tostadas with fresh made in-house salsa, that kids absolutely love –– all while saving money.”

“While our study focused on school food, it’s clear that meat and cheese reduction is a powerful climate mitigation strategy for all restaurants and institutions that want to reduce their environmental impact. We hope this report inspires more public institutions to serve less and better meat and more plant-based foods as a cost effective way to achieve both environmental and public health goals.”

Look…this is where I stand on this whole issue. God created the earth as a provision for all his children’s needs. Everything on this planet was made to provide for his children. That’s including meat. We should be utilizing his gifts while not over indulging, but as what meets our needs.

As for the world dying due to climate change…no one has said that. The planet we live on, planet earth is his, and come what may with his creation is up to him. Not some lady who tells us that cow farts have the power to do what only God has the right to.
