President Barack Obama commuted an additional 209 sentences of felons yesterday and that put him over-the-top. He has granted more commutations than the previous 12 Presidents combined. As of this writing, he’s still has 24 hours and 19 minutes; he may be able to add another dozen Presidents to that list.
Obama has commuted the sentences of 1,385 people, 504 of those serving life terms. Among those who have received a commutation is Bradley Manning, an Army specialist who gave nearly 1 million classified documents to WikiLeaks.
The bottom line with this particular commutation is that Obama has no problem with someone who would steal documents and release them to WikiLeaks putting our national security at risk. On the other hand if someone hacks the Democratic National Committee’s computers and releases emails that embarrassed the Democratic Party those people should be stood up against the wall and shot.
On his way out the door Obama managed an action, Bradley Manning’s commutation, that even brought down the ire of House Speaker Paul Ryan. “Manning’s treachery put American lives at risk and expose some of our nation’s most sensitive secrets. President Obama now leaves in place a dangerous precedent that those who compromise our national security won’t be held accountable for their crimes.”
Obama’s action with Bradley Manning wasn’t even received well within his administration. Defense Secretary Ash Carter said he did not support the move to commute Manning sentence. “All I will say about the Manning case is that I did not support the direction the president went but he made his decision. That’s all I’m going to say. That was not my recommendation.”
In other news, Obama also commuted the sentence of Oscar Lopez Rivera, a Puerto Rican nationalist in prison for bombings in U.S. cities. Puerto Rican terrorists called him a “political prisoner.”
In a move that no one should be surprised by, Obama stood shoulder to shoulder with the Puerto Rican terrorist group FALN. The group was responsible for dozens of bombings and incendiary attacks during the 70’s.
FALN terrorists have been the recipient of favors from Democrats in the past. In 1999, then-President Bill Clinton offered clemency to 16 FALN terrorists. At the time it was rumored that Clinton gave clemency in return for Puerto Rican support of Hillary Clinton’s run for the New York Senate seat.
At least Clinton got something in return for his pardons I wonder what Obama got? After watching Obama for eight years he was probably just happy in the knowledge that once again he stuck it to America.
