Foreign policy in the Obama administration has been an eight-year bad joke capped off by the embarrassment of having John Kerry as Secretary of State. It was bad enough that Hillary Clinton and her “Smart Diplomacy” were featured in the first four years of Obama’s reign of stupidity, but John Kerry certainly carried on her tradition of incompetence and even made things worse.
Here’s Kerry talking about the situation in Syria.
It’s interesting to listen to him talk about how bad the situation is in Syria after his boss, President Barack Obama, drew a big red line in the sand that he promptly forgot about. Syria is the perfect picture of Obama foreign policy. It’s been a complete failure from day one.
Everything that John Kerry has done with respect to Syria has been a failure. He met with the Russians earlier this month and handed them the city of Aleppo. Bashar Assad’s forces promptly moved in and took over and massacred civilians. Showing how clueless the Obama administration is, the White House promptly congratulated Kerry on his “skilled, principled, tough, tenacious diplomacy.” The families of massacred civilians and Aleppo had no comment.
Initially Kerry held meetings in Geneva on a cease-fire. An agreement was reached and there was a cease-fire in place for about two hours. The Russians and Syrians resumed airstrikes before the ink was dry on the agreement. The Secretary of State has been running around Europe trying to get people interested in talking about Syria. No one ever shows up at his meetings.
It’s gotten so bad that on Tuesday ambassadors from Russia, Iran, and Turkey met in Moscow to begin negotiations regarding Syria. John Kerry wasn’t invited. No U.S. representative attended and they even cut the United Nations out of the talks.
The U.S. State Department was overwhelmed with happy talk.
“[If the talks] lead to a sense of calm enough in Syria that political talks can resume, then that would be great and that’s what we’d like to see.”
Take special note of the wording of what the State Department had to say. A “sense of calm.” I’m not sure exactly what that means, but I’m positive it doesn’t mean that people in Syria are going to stop shooting at one another. “Political talks.” Those would be an opportunity for Obama administration “diplomats” to rack up some quality time and expensive hotels in Switzerland on the American taxpayers dime.
It’s going to be interesting to see what happens when Donald Trump’s State Department takes over on January 21. The Obama administration, Hillary Clinton, and John Kerry, have dug an enormous hole in the Middle East and they refuse to stop digging. It’s going to be nice to have an administration in charge of negotiating with these tyrants that actually will put the American people first in their negotiations.
It’s going to be a very interesting year.
