Barack Obama said exactly what you would expect him to say about the death of Fidel Castro. After all, Castro was a communist dictator who butchered his enemies. I’m sure President Obama is exceedingly jealous and if given the chance, would make Castro look like a piker.
“For nearly 6 decades, the relationship between the United States and Cuba was marked by discord and profound political disagreements. During my presidency, we have worked hard to put the past behind us, pursuing a future in which the relationship between our two countries is defined not by our differences but by the many things we share as neighbors and friends – bonds of family, culture, commerce, and common humanity.”
That is the heart of what Barack Obama had to say about Fidel Castro. It’s also the same level of truth as, “If you like your doctor…”
First of all, the United States and Cuba share nothing as neighbors and we certainly are not friends. In terms of the bonds of family, Fidel Castro is responsible for destroying tens of thousands of families in Cuba. He destroyed them by creating a climate in Cuba where people were so desperate to leave they risked their lives in the ocean on a raft to come to America.
In terms of commerce, the only commerce between the United States and Cuba since Castro became dictator has been smuggled Havana cigars coming into the U.S. and car parts for cars of the 50s going into Cuba.
As far as common humanity, humanity has not been one of the hallmarks of Castro’s rule in Cuba. It’s been just the opposite. Fidel Castro willingly sent his terrorist armies into Central and South America to train terrorists, and was actively involved in communist terrorist actions all over Africa. Within his country, his prisons are filled with political dissenters, homosexuals, human rights advocates, and anyone else Fidel didn’t like. That may be Barack Obama’s idea of humanity – and it probably is – but it’s not America’s.
Marco Rubio’s family escaped Cuba, and here’s what Marco had to say to President Obama.
In addition to Rubio’s smack down, a number of other prominent Republicans from Donald Trump down attacked the president’s pathetically stupid and insensitive remarks.
Obama will certainly send representatives from the U.S. to Cuba for Fidel’s funeral, he might even go himself.
Donald Trump certainly will not be invited but on the occasion he should remember noted U.S. storyteller Mark Twain. Twain reportedly said, concerning the death of man for whom he had no use, “I did not attend his funeral, but I sent a nice letter saying I approved of it.”
I think that would be appropriate. I suspect an overwhelming number of Republican political figures would be willing to cosign.
