How quickly things change. One minute Hillary has the FBI bought and paid for, and in the next the FBI seems to have refused to stay bought.
Hillary showed up in Iowa for a campaign event, she likes meeting people who are paid to show up at her events, when she found out the FBI had reopened their criminal investigation of her. The press was shouting questions and she got off the plane but apparently she didn’t know anything about it because there wasn’t Wi-Fi on the flight. Her friends in the press corps didn’t find out about it until they hit the ground either.
In Clintonian fashion she smiled and waved and then later got into the FBI’s face.
“We are 11 days out from perhaps the most important national election of our lifetime. Voting is already underway in our country. So the American people deserve to get the full and complete fax immediately.”
Hillary’s right about one thing, voting is underway. In a number of states voters are allowed to go back to polling offices to change their absentee votes.
Several states, including Wisconsin and Minnesota, are reporting voters coming back to polling offices to change their votes. That’s especially interesting in Wisconsin and Minnesota because they should be reliably blue states. Trump is leading or within striking distance in both of those states in most polls.
A Clinton operative with a byline summed up Hillary’s situation nicely.
Dashed are the hopes that the campaign could come to a conclusion on a high note, instilling in Americans a feeling that casting a history-making vote for Clinton is something more than merely a repudiation of Donald Trump.
Instead, Clinton is finding herself once again burdened by the twin scandals that have hung over her campaign since before she had a campaign — and devastating her image as an honest and trustworthy leader, even as she tried to make the case that she is the most experienced modern-day candidate for president, and the only option in the race who is responsible enough to handle the nuclear codes.
Someone close to the Clinton campaign told the Clinton operative that “people are shocked.”
The only thing shocking about this is that we have in October surprise focused on a Democrat.
In Donald Trump’s camp, his campaign manager announced that fundraising was off the charts and that means enthusiasm among trump voters is also off the charts. You can bet that morale in the Clinton camp is lower than a snake’s belly. Independent voters have been completely turned off by Clinton since the beginning of the campaign and you can bet the announcement of the renewed FBI investigation is a big time blast of cold water on any independent that was leaning toward Hillary.
How bad is it for Hillary? Here’s the headline in the editorial page of the Chicago Tribune, or reliably Democratic newspaper in one of America’s most corrupt cities.
And here’s the lede to the commentary.
Has America become so numb by the decades of lies and cynicism oozing from Clinton Inc. that it could elect Hillary Clinton as president, even after Friday’s FBI announcement that it had reopened an investigation of her emails while secretary of state?
We’ll find out soon enough.
If ruling Democrats hold themselves to the high moral standards they impose on the people they govern, they would follow a simple process:
They would demand that Mrs. Clinton step down, immediately, and let her vice presidential nominee, Sen. Tim Kaine of Virginia, stand in her place.
The Chicago Tribune can print that in the sure knowledge that ruling Democrats have no standards, let alone “high moral standards.”
The process for Democrats going forward will be simple. It’s a “vast right-wing conspiracy” and when Hillary loses they’ll drag out the “election was stolen by the FBI” line and insist that Donald Trump is an illegitimate president.
One way or another the next four years are going to be really interesting.
