That’s right, Ronda Rousey is coming back to the Octagon for December 30 fight against the UFC women’s bantamweight champion, Amanda Nunes in Las Vegas. What a way to say goodbye to 2016. My only regret is that Ronda won’t be fighting Hillary Clinton.
“Ronda Rousey has been the biggest baddest female fighter on the planet since we got into women’s fighting. Ronda had a bad loss and lost her title, but she still Ronda Rousey at the end of the day.” That was UFC president Dana White talking about Ronda’s comeback.
This will be her first fight since she lost the title to Holly Holm in November of last year. Holm put her down for the count with a devastating head kick.
After her loss, Rousey was sidelined so she can recover from a concussion she received in that loss.
Holly, against all advice, put her title on the line in a fight with Misha Tate and lost her title in her first defense. Tate didn’t learn anything from her fight with Holm, she immediately took a title defense against the up-and-coming Amanda Nunes and lost her first title defense in July.
Nunes is looking forward to the fight and was quoted as saying, “I know if Ronda Rousey is coming back, I’m going to keep the championship.”
We’ll see how that works out.
For MMA fans it should be a great night and a great fight. It’ll be great to have Ronda back in the ring. If she’s able to beat Nunes the next big question will be, will Ronda be back on the beach?
And of course, will she be back in Sports Illustrated with all that body paint?
