After the DNC hack, there was speculation that Russia was involved. The idea isn’t exactly far fetched, they have done it before, just ask Hillary!
This time, after weeks of rumors, Putin put rumors to rest….
He said Russia wasn’t specifically involved but they performed a public service.
Putin said. “There’s no need to distract the public’s attention from the essence of the problem by raising some minor issues connected with the search for who did it,” “I don’t know anything about it, and on a state level Russia has never done this.”
Back in July U.S. intelligence reported that they were “highly confident” that Russia was responsible for the hack, an assessment echoed by two independent cyber security firms. Hmmm suspicious much?
U.S. intelligence agencies told the White House in late July they now assess with “high confidence” that Russia was responsible for hacking the DNC email server. Two independent U.S. based cyber security expert firms also attributed the hack to Russian intelligence agencies.
The release of the leaks is viewed as a “weaponization” of information gathered for intelligence purposes. While Russia has engaged in such activity in European elections, such a breach into U.S. politics would surpass any previous actions of the Soviet Union at the height of the Cold War.
Members of American intelligence agencies have in the past alleged that WikiLeaks, the organization that released the DNC emails, is an arm of Russian intelligence. Still, there is no hard connection between the two (as intelligence fronts often work).
Even though only a few were released, they got access to over 20,000 e-mails. Russia claims not to be responsible for this particular hack, but, unfortunately, we know that they’re certainly capable of it, and they’ve gone through with it before Putin says he has nothing to do with the hack, this time, fear not: he’s still a fan. No reason to worry. After all, the DNC hack was a public service….
