After losing everything to floods that ripped through many towns, these people were depressed, to say the least. The water destroyed many homes in Virginia so the humanitarian crew set out to do their job and help people in need. That’s when they discovered something odd poking out beneath the mud. The poor man thought he had nothing left, but he discovered he had everything.
The unnamed couple’s bed had a shelf attached to the headboard, which was now in pieces and covered in dirt, but one thing remained in unexplained perfect condition. “Standing on a mud covered bedroom floor the man cried, ‘My wife’s Bible!’” Tanya wrote in her post about the moment she picked up the book in impeccable condition and showed the man who she was working alongside.
The Bible had been sitting under 4-feet of flood water and was peeled from the mud when she recovered it. Despite being soaking wet, the pages showed no trace of having endured such a disaster when the man opened the book and set it out on the porch in hopes of drying it out. Tanya stared at it in awe that these incredibly thin pages weren’t tattered, the print wasn’t faded, God’s word had quite literally prevailed, withstanding every “weapon” that had been used against it.
“What amazes me is that it isn’t ripped or torn,” Tanya described in her post. “Not one page torn on even a corner. Every soaked Bible and Hymnal we took from church pews…all intact. God’s word stands!” she added.
This isn’t the first natural disaster where a Bible has been recovered in practically untouched condition. When deadly tornadoes ripped through Texas last year, an elderly couple was killed in their home after their residence had been reduced to a pile of rubble, but their Bible was found intact in what remained. Adding to the incredible discovery was the passage it had been opened up to when it was found (James 1:2-6), which was befitting to the circumstances:
“My brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of any kind, consider it nothing but joy, because you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance; and let endurance have its full effect, so that you may be mature and complete, lacking in nothing.”
Do you think finding this bible was a coincidence? Many would say no, in any case, it’s wonderful that such a simple thing could make someone so happy. Happiness really does come from helping others and appreciating the little things in life.
