Segregation is making a new comeback and in of all places Houston, Texas, where a city councilman only wants blacks policing blacks!
Because of recent officer-involved shootings of black men as well as the assassinations of police officers in Dallas, he believes police should “reflect the ethnicity” of the communities they patrol.
“Because that will eliminate second-guessing. People know their community; they know their culture; and I think that can make a difference.” said Houston Councilman Dwight Boykins.
“I think at this point, because of the crisis situation, not in Houston but throughout the country, we need to have officers patrolling areas that reflect the ethnicity.”
ABSURD! INSANE! STUPID!
Houston Police Officers’ Union 2nd Vice President Joseph Gamaldi said the idea was ludicrous and that it would not work!
This would be a step backwards, not forward. The ramifications would be absurd. It totally ignores the real problem, which is the lack of fathers in the black community.
Fox 26 Houston held a panel discussion over the weekend. Legal Analyst Chris Tritico led off the weekend panel’s discussion:
“Well, if that doesn’t work, I guess we could have separate schools and maybe separate people in the restaurants … just keep the races separate so we won’t have to have these problems anymore.”
Jacquie Baly, a black Republican responded, “I think I understand where the councilman was trying to go. We don’t have the resources for something like that. We have diversity in a lot of cities.”
She went on to point out the obvious, that true solutions begin in the home. “I think as parents, we need to take the responsibility. My sons trust police officers because I have told them you treat them like you do teachers, like you do pastors.”
Former Harris County Democrat Chairman Gerald Birnberg personal friend of Councilman Boykins rejected the insanity as well:
“I’m baffled by that one. For one thing, we don’t have an equal number of African-American police officers as we do African-American members of the community. For another, what does that say about an African-American who dares to venture outside of ‘their neighborhood’ where they’re not predominantly there. What about the Latino community which is dispersed throughout the entirety of Harris County?”
The left is always trying to sanitize the world of it’s problems by micromanaging “We the People!” Number one you cannot sanitize the world of its problems. Letting government try to accomplish that task is a solution that never ends well!
But this brilliant idea just makes me #FacePalm!
How do some of these people get elected?
