For most of us, our exposure to gymnastics happens every 4 years during the Olympics. It looks incredibly hard (it is) and a lot of the time it looks pretty dangerous (it is).
To get an idea just how hard and how dangerous gymnastics really is this video comes from the gymnastics championships that were held last week in Ontario, Canada. You’re going to see a young girl on the uneven bars who seems to be having a very good routine right up to the point of her dismount.
She misses her landing and heads face first into the mat when a coach, Vitali Laurentide, saves the day.
It looks to me like he may well have saved her life. Had she gone into that mat face first she could easily have broken her neck.
Great job coach. That was a 10.
