Putin’s Russian military, specifically the Russian Air Force, is playing games with the U.S. Navy and Air Force. Why? Because they know they can. Who’s going to stop them? Certainly not Barack Obama.
I mean really? This from the same president, who still thinks that radical islamic terrorists are the JV team! What did you expect?
The Russians are flexing their muscles with close fly-bys of our ships and recon aircraft. The latest episodes took place last week and the fly-by of the Navy destroyer USS Donald Cook was a real thumb in the eye.
That last pass was a mere 30 feet over the top of the Donald Cook’s deck.
Leon Paneta, in the first minute of the video, hits the nail right on the head. “If you don’t deal with [Putin] from strength he’ll try to take advantage of you.”
In the case of President Barack Obama, he’ll not only try, he’ll do it. Putin understands the concept of “leading from behind” much better than does our President. Putin understands that you CAN’T lead from behind.
“On April 14, a U.S. Air Force RC-135 aircraft flying a routine route in international airspace over the Baltic Sea was intercepted by a Russian Su-27 in an unsafe and unprofessional manner,” said Navy Capt. Danny Hernandez.
“This intercept comes shortly after the unsafe Russian encounters with USS Donald Cook,” he added. “There have been repeated incidents over the last year where Russian military aircraft have come close enough to other air and sea traffic to raise serious safety concerns, and we are very concerned with any such behavior.”
Hernandez said the U.S. aircraft, a militarized Boeing 707 jet, was operating in international airspace “and at no time crossed into Russian territory.”
“This unsafe and unprofessional air intercept has the potential to cause serious harm and injury to all aircrews involved,” he said. “More importantly, the unsafe and unprofessional actions of a single pilot have the potential to unnecessarily escalate tensions between countries.”
Krauthammer, in his comments on the video, is absolutely right. The Russians aren’t playing to the U.S. they’re playing to the Eastern Europeans and every other country that counts on the U.S. as an ally.
The U.S. is all talk and absolutely no action on foreign policy. The U.S., under Barack Obama, is a big stick with no one to swing it. I’m not sure that any country will ever trust the U.S. again after our feckless President leaves office. He’s proved absolutely that the U.S. is not a country to be trusted.
At least as long as there are Democrats.
