Donald Trump got his first endorsement from a departing Republican primary candidate.
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie endorsed GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump on Friday, giving the billionaire businessman a high-profile boost just days before Super Tuesday.
“I am proud to be here to endorse Donald Trump for president of the United States,” Mr. Christie, a former 2016 Republican presidential candidate, said at an event in Texas with Mr. Trump.
Mr. Christie’s support came hours after Mr. Trump drew pointed debate jabs from remaining rivals Sens. Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz.
“To me, it’s a very big endorsement,” Mr. Trump said. “This was an endorsement that really meant a lot. … This is the one endorsement I felt very strongly about that I wanted to get.”
Without regard to Christie’s endorsement which isn’t really likely to mean much on SuperTuesday, it’s beginning to look like it’s “Plan B” time for everybody but Trump.
It looks like the “Great Light Brown Hope” of the Republican Establishment, Marco Rubio, is a dead duck. Trump is up 16-20 points in Marco’s home state of Florida and the lead seems to be increasing. Toast.
Ted Cruz is still leading in Texas, but after he gets blown out on SuperTuesday, who knows. Could he put together a back room deal at the convention? I doubt it, the deal makers hate him more than they hate Trump.
And then there’s always the dude from Ohio and Dr. Carson. The deal makers may love John-John, but pushing him up to the podium would likely lead to the creation of third, a fourth, and a fifth party. Dr. Carson is a nice man and a fantastic doctor. He’d be my choice as a neighbor out of both fields. He couldn’t beat the Dead White Cat. Who, by the way, is looking good for a write-in.
