For all you college football fans, I hope you enjoyed your weekend. For those of you who watched the “Granddaddy of Them ALL” – the 102nd Rose Bowl between the Iowa Hawkeyes and Stanford Cardinals….OUCH! That was a hard game to watch, especially if you were a Hawkeye’s fans.
It seems it was even harder, if you were presidential candidate Carly Fiorina, an alumni of Stanford who took a little heat on Saturday over her tweet in support of Iowa.
Love my alma mater, but rooting for a Hawkeyes win today.
That tweet very quickly had more than a thousand retweets with many, many comments, most of which are not fit for reprinting here. Some of the more “safe for work” entries came from notables such as Justin Amash.
Why would you root for the Hawkeyes? This is insulting to voters in Iowa (and everywhere). https://twitter.com/carlyfiorina/status/682999832189911040 …
Even the Iowa Starting Line seemed to not be terribly grateful for the “support.”
What happened shortly thereafter on Twitter, Carly started trending, but not in a good way.
Stanford went on to beat Iowa in the Rose Bowl (21-16).
So much for Carly’s support. Just like her support for Iowa slid, so has her support in the presidential race. According to Real Clear Politics, a recent CNN national poll shows Carly with 1% and in Iowa she’s at 3%.
Of course, just like a typical politician once Carly Fiorina realized she was “caught”, she came out on Sunday to say her tweet was just a “tongue in cheek”.
Someone please explain to me how this is “tongue in cheek”. Would she have said the same thing, if she didn’t get caught? She was clearly pandering. She got nailed. Then, she tried to get out of it.
Carly Fiorina appeared Sunday on CNN to try and make up some ground game. Unfortunately, just like the Hawkeyes, there was no ground to be gained. A loss is a loss. Game over.
Let’s get REAL Carly! Iowa is Hawkeye Country. Just like you should have reconsidered that tweet, maybe it is time to reconsider your political campaign. I say that with no “tongue in cheek”.
My congrats to Stanford.
As for Iowa, it’s going to be Cruz Country on February 1st!
