Darth Vader Robs Store BUT Clerk Fights Back with Salad Dressing

A man who attempted to rob a store dressed in a Darth Vader costume quickly found out that the ‘force’ was not with him when police arrested him and took him into custody.

Jacob Jeremy Mercer, 32, was arrested in the attempted armed robbery of Jacksonville Beach’s 8 til Late store on Sunday.

The Star Wars ‘fan’ entered the store with a gun while wearing the Darth Vader mask and demanded money while threatening the startled cashier.

But the store cashier fought back and picked up a bottle of salad dressing and flung it at the robber who turned and ran away, according to The Florida Times-Union. Outside, the man took off the mask and as he was getting into a car looked at a witness who was in the area.

Eyewitnesses said that the robber’s Star Wars outfit included a helmet and replica of Vader’s chest-mounted control box.

No one inside the store was harmed during the botched robbery attempt.

Police found his getaway car – described by eyewitnesses as ‘a silver car with New York plates’ –  on South Fifth Street.

Mercer from Tonawanda, New York, was then apprehended after police went to the residence where he was staying and asked him to come outside.

Mercer, who was bleeding from the bridge of his nose, was identified by one of the witnesses as the robber.

Police found several handguns and ammunition in Mercer’s backpack, a police report said.

Mercer was then taken to the hospital to be treated for his injury and is currently at the Duval County jail, Evans said. He is being charged with armed robbery and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He is not eligible for bond, Evans said.

Mercer was released from a Florida state prison on Nov. 15, 2006, after serving a 17-month sentence, the Florida Department of Corrections told ABC News, but did not specify what the conviction was for.

So evidently, it looks like the force was with the cashier that night. Things could have gone a lot differently had the suspect used his gun or ammo that he was caught with. Mr. Mercer must not be a huge Star Wars fan, because everyone knows Darth Vader never removes his mask, especially to eye witnesses. One thing’s for sure this guy is definitely from the “dark side”. May the force….police force that is….be with you. The Galactic Empire is not going to be too happy with you. Guess we will have to see if there is going to be a real “Revenge of the Sith” episode that will follow.
