Let’s just outlaw guns and there won’t be anymore shootings! That is what’s known as “Liberal Logic.” While we’re at it, why don’t we outlaw drugs and child molestation and beating your spouse! More laws will fix everything!!
OK, I can go back to bed now. Tomorrow, world peace!
Except it turns out that “Liberal Logic” doesn’t work. We’ve now got a university professor from Perdue who has research that shows that, to put it in language that Progressives like Barack Obama can understand, guns don’t kill people, gun free zones kill people.
A professor from Purdue researched mass shootings from the 1950s on and discovered that only two of them occurred where guns are legal to be carried. This really blows apart liberal arguments that more guns means more mass shootings. Between 2004 and 2012, gun ownership increased by 61%. But since 2008, violent crimes decreased by 12.9%. Eric Dietz, Ph.D., the former Director of Homeland Security for the state of Indiana and a 22-year Army veteran, and now a professor at Purdue University, set out to find out how armed citizens could prevent deaths.
Professor Dietz looked at four distinct mass shooter scenarios:
No access to security or control. The critical element in this scenario is time. It’s like the old saying, “911 response time 5 minutes. 357 magnum response time 1,450 ft. per sec.” The long the shooter is undisturbed, the more people he can potentially kill.
A resource officer is present. When an armed officer is present response time is cut by 60% and casualties drop by 67%.
Up to 10% of the potential victims are armed (concealed carry.) In this scenario response time was cut by up to 17% and casualties by 23%.
Up to 10% armed plus a resource officer. In this final scenario, response time is reduced by up to 63% and casualties by 70%.
The bottom line, having armed citizens, whether they are civilians carrying a concealed weapon or officers with a gun, reduces response time significantly and reduces fatalities by up to 70%.
Count one more piece of “Liberal Logic” dashed on the rocks of common sense.
